starting injections tonight. HELP!

Hi all,

My husband and I are starting our ivf treatment. First Meriofert injection this evening.

We were suppose to begin this treatment on my next cycle in April, as they threw a curve ball last minute a few weeks ago and said my smear was out of date and I’d need to have it done beforehand so we really didn’t think we would make this cycle In time before smear results came back. (They’ve come back fine a few days ago) so we booked this appt for our treatment plan thinking we were starting next month.

The nurse yesterday asked when my next cycle date is and I just mentioned that I’d started my period Tuesday and she then told us we could start treatment for this cycle instead. Obviously we were a bit shocked to be starting this soon but so excited to finally be starting this journey. (It’s been a very very long road for us)

She has given us all our meds and plans.

I’ve noticed today that my bleeding has stopped already though.

Is it normal to start injections on day 3?

Sorry for information overload. Xx

An exciting time for you ! Also quite stressful- so just take it a day at a time and if unsure of anything at all -give your nurse/clinic a call Treatment is started just after your period begins -day 2/3 and it does not matter if your bleeding has stopped But if still unsure give your clinic a quick call for reassurance

Take care and good luck

Janet

Hi Dal, good luck with your treatment cycle. I found the injections painful and bruised a lot until someone on this forum suggested placing an ice cube on the area you are going to inject, then once done press a cotton wool ball firmly to the injection spot for at least a minute. So thought I would share incase you also find them painful.

Great advice. Thanks! 😊 This is all so overwhelming so any advice is really appreciated.

hello you’ve got this. Take your time. Set alarms so you don’t miss anything. The injections seem scary but honestly once you have done the first few you will be stabbing that bad boy without even thinking about it. Make sure you have checked everything (some medication comes without a needle in the box 🤦‍♀️) so make sure you are fully prepped xxx good luck xxx

Hi there, hope it’s going well… and yes definitely normal to start in day 2/3 and okay that bleeding has stopped 👍🏼.

I started my meds last night. Also on Meriofert- was on Menopur last time. How have you found it… I seem to be struggling to draw up the mixture into the syringe and then change to needle to inject- the pressure seems to want to push out the mixture in the syringe 🙈.

Hi 😊 thank you!

Had my second injection last night. I’ve gotten my husband to give me the injection and have used the ice cube trick both times and to be fair, I’ve not felt a thing. Obviously it’s still early days but yeah so far it’s been fine.

How are you finding it? Our nurse did say that the pressure in the syringe will try to push out.. 🙈 I’m just happy we’ve finally gotten to this point. It’s been nearly 7 years to actually get here with various set backs along the way.

Trying not to get too ahead of myself though, trying to take it a day at a time.

Glad it went well! And yes one day at a time is the best way to approach it- it’s overwhelming enough so you need to look after yourself 🥰.

I was on Menopur last time which was much easier- I don’t like mixing the meds everyday, also it seems like a really small amount and so awkward with the pressure in the syringe!

Hi, how have you been feeling after a few days?

Hope it’s getting a bit easier with the syringe. 😊

hey! Yes definitely easier now… although I’ve realised tonight that they’ve only prescribed me meds up to day 10, so hoping they’ll be able to give me more on Friday when I have my first monitoring scan!! Have you got any scans coming up? X

_DAL_ profile image

I noticed the same with our meds.

Our first scan is this Friday as well, so will ask them then. 😊

I’m sure our nurse said that after the first scan they will be able to let us know if they need to increase meds etc so I would imagine they will prescribe more then.

How are you feeling about your scan?

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit anxious about ours. Hopefully alls well. 🤞

Good luck with yours. 😊

Hey, Sorry to hear you’ve got a headache and side pain.

Yeah, I started Meriofert last Thursday, followed with cetrotide Tuesday just gone and have been feeling pretty rough the last few days. Headache that won’t budge, cramps and nausea.

I’ve got my first check up scan tomorrow so fingers crossed alls well.

Hope things get better for you. Has your first check up scan been booked? 😊

hi thanks, yeh I start cetrotide on Monday an I go for my checkup that morning then I have another checkup booked for the Friday, they said if everything goes well I could be getting my eggs removed around the 10th .

I’ve been told I have to have a frozen cycle tho as my AMH levels are high, I’m just hoping that’s not the case when it comes to it lol.

I hope everything goes well for you x
