Hysteroscopy finally done! In pain any advice?

Hi lovely ladies, I wanted to give you an update on where I am in the IVF roller coaster journey. I was meant to have an hysterescopy last month for reduction of fibroids but the anaesthetists did not turn up. So they cancel it at 6pm that night. Was planned for yesterday and finally got it. It was the worse full anaesthetics I ever had. The anaesthetist was brutal and injected the product so quickly the I was screaming. Even the nurses were embarrassed. Was discharged at midnight because of lack of staff. Now suffer bad diaphragm and shoulder pain. Contacted the hospital several times nearly 3 hours ago. They said they will call me back. They haven't yet.I am thinking of writing a complaint. I took some codeïn so I feel much better now. Has anyone experienced that type of pain after surgery? Thanks for your support xx 💖

Hi mimisquiz77. So sorry you had such a rough ride, no need for being brutal. Good job it wasn’t my staff! The discomfort you have is often caused by the gas used during the procedure. Drink plenty of water and try not to get constipated. Take some regular paracetamol for pain, unless something else has been prescribed and have a rest when you can. No anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Hope you soon feel much better. Diane

Thank you so much for your advice. As I did not know what to do. I went to the A&E with my husband.. we are still there waiting to be checked. I wish they would have told me yesterday...

Wow that sounds terrible. I had one about 2-3 weeks ago now abroad as here was costly but needed before we dine treatment.

It was like a dull period pain after bit I was back on my feet in a couple of hours.

Doesn’t seem like you should be in that much pain.

Hope it all gets sorted for you x

Thank you very much. I am glad to hear that it went well for you. Did you bleed a lot the days after the operation? I am still at A&E. They checked my blood pressure, did a blood test and monitor my heart. I am waiting for the results. I think it’s the side effects of the anaesthetic.

No not much bleeding only straight after but that was for a few hours by late evening it had simmer d to a small little flow similar to a very light period

Hi Mimisquiz77,

Sorry you are going through so much pain. I’ve been under general anaesthetic five times. Like DianArnold said it sounds like the gas they use to inflate your organs is giving you seriously bad trapped wind. I had the same problem as you. I find hot peppermint tea to be good at getting the air out. This won’t happen all at once but it will help to speed up the process. You’ll feel better in about a week.

I also had major surgery to remove multiple large fibroids which included a hysteroscopy, last June. Healing is a long process, physically and mentally so be patient and be kind to yourself, you will get back to full health soon.

Drink lots of tea, take care and good luck x

I had a laparoscopy recently and had the same problem with the gas...they told me to walk as it helps dispelling the gas. I took me nearly 3 weeks after the op to feel completely normal again, the anaesthetic can be a very different experience from person to person. Don’t worry, just give your body a chance to recover at its own pace. X

Hi Larobby, thanks for your kind message. I think you are right, I just need to be patient. I wished they would have told me they put gas in me. That would have saved me worrying a lot and spend hours in A&E... take care x
