Hi 😊 New and very nervous

Hi, this is my first post here and not sure what to say.

I’m about to start my first cycle of ivf and picking up medication for starting down regulating tomorrow 😬

Feeling rather nervous about injecting as I hate needles, does anyone have any tips for making it easier!?

Hi welcome to the forum, you’ll get loads of support here! I was the same - terrified of injecting but honestly it wasn’t that bad at all! First round I used a bit of ice to numb my tummy and pinched the skin, this time I didn’t bother with the ice. It’s no where near as bad as I thought it would be and you get used to it so quickly. Best of luck for your cycle! Xx

Thanks for the reply!

Makes me feel much better just saying I’m nervous and hearing from others it’s not as bad as I think.

Absolutely! This forum is such a fab source of support. just talking about things with people who truly understand what you are going through makes you feel less alone xx

My first two rounds I sucked a sherbet lemon as I did it! Sounds mad but having a strong sensation in your mouth kind of takes away from the sensation of the needle and the sweet gives you something to look forward to (sherbet lemons are my favourite!).

Also I get my hubbie to fill the syringe and just hand it over to me so I don’t get worked up over-thinking it right before I have to do it.

My clinic told me to inject in my thighs but I found this really hard so I asked them if I could switch to my tummy which they said was fine and I’ve found much easier x

Sound like a great idea to take my mind off it (and who doesn’t love a treat!)

Thanks

I’m thinking I might have to buy another packet- I’m a week in to round three and I hadn’t thought about it!

The first one is so nerve wracking. I stood there for ages before I could do it. But you'll quickly get used to it. All the best.

Once you get one or two injections done you’ll get into your own rhythm of doing things and you’ll sail through I’m sure.

I used to numb the skin with an ice cube. Also pinch the skin where you’re going to inject between your thumb and forefinger. I always alternated between injecting on my left and right side of abdomen to avoid jabbing myself in the same place over and over. My husband and I used to sit down together at the kitchen table and get everything set out. I’d take things out of wrappers, He’d draw up the vials etc and then hand them over to me for injection. You kind of get into a wee routine.

Hope it goes ok tomorrow. Very best of luck for your cycle xx

Welcome to the forum!! Hopefully you will find it useful!! I was told to inject into alternate thigh. Pinch the skin and it will make it easier. Once you get the first one done it becomes much easier!! I'll never ever forget my first injection - I was so nervous I was getting my OH to do it but he didn't want to listen to the instructions I had been given at the clinic. I ended up just telling him to get it done so I'm standing in the kitchen doorway, trousers round my ankles, crying - he's shouting telling me to not be so stupid and then he sticks the needle in!! He was more worried about it after!! The thought of the needles is far worse than the actual process!! I start my stim injections on the 3rd Jan!! Good luck for your first cycle x

Thanks

Your right it’s the thought that’s worse than the doing x

Oh I am beyond petrified of needles and I have to say I managed just fine. There is absolutely no way I can inject myself so my Hubby did all of my injections. I used a bit of ice to numb the area (injected in my tummy) he pinched the skin and as he injected he released the skin he was pinching. It was really not bad at all. It is possible to hit a little blood vessle and that could be a little sore and you will get a nice bruise but of all the injections it only happened once. If I can do the injections with my phobia then I think anyone can do it! Sending lots of positive vibes your way!
