Hi, I know I’m posting a lot lately but it’s so nice to get everything out there to people who understand!
So, I’ll be getting a call from the embryologist tomorrow morning to let us know how our embryos are doing. We managed to get 10 fertilised and apart from that I’ve no idea what else has been happening.
We’re due to have an embryo transfer tomorrow and hopefully have some left over to freeze. I’m just so worried that the last time I heard from the embryologist was to let us know how many had fertilised and nothing since? Is this usual?
I’m so worried for tomorrow to see how they’ve developed!

Hi Ziggyand BC, I think every clinic is different in their approach. Unfortunately I have always had to freeze all after egg collections due to developing OOHS, however our clinic only rang on day 5 to let us know how many had made it to freeze. I think it’s fairly common to not hear anything until day 5 which I presume is your transfer day. I suspect you will get a call tomorrow morning but no harm in ringing your clinic to check. Good luck with transfer.x
Thank you! My clinic only take emergencies on weekends so I won’t ring them, just trying to keep myself busy until tomorrow! It’s such a nerve-wracking process from start to finish xx
Agree with previous response that it varies by clinic, possibly even by embryologist; our first round was NHS and the embryologist there called us every day with very detailed updates. The second round was private and we had to constantly ask for updates and do it via the reception staff - we got barely any information and if we hadn't asked I'm not sure they would have told us anything until transfer day. I think you will worry no matter what though - if I had been allowed I would have gone and sat in the lab and watched over them myself, probably even read to them 😊 10 fertilised is amazing btw ☘️
I was expecting them to call with more updates tbh so when he said he’d next call me on Sunday morning I was shocked! I’d definitely be sat in the lab asking a million questions about how they’re doing and pestering the embryologists if I was allowed 😂 It’s the not knowing which is the worst! You just never know which way it’ll go, thank you we’re both chuffed with what we managed to get ❤️ Hopefully the quality is just as good xx
Hey, it was the same for me. We heard from the clinic the day after egg collection to tell us how many fertilised (we had 10 too!!) and then a call on day 5 to tell us how many made it. Good luck for your call tomorrow, and good luck for transfer.
I googled how many make it to blasts and it said 30-50% which would be 3-5. I told myself I’d be happy with any and if I had some left to freeze it’s a bonus. It’s so hard to try and keep your expectations low sometimes xx
Agreed! Fingers crossed for you. I think I was more disappointed because on our day 5 call we just had 1, the other 2 are day 6, which I’m thrilled about! And it only takes one! Our first was successful (so far), currently 17+5.
Totally understandable to feel nervous! In my experience I usually get a day 3 update, and then a day 5 update, but like others have said it varies as some clinics don't really offer day 3 transfers anymore. You have a lot fertilized so that's a really good sign. Crossing my fingers for you 🤞🏻 xx
Thank you! Yeah I think my consultant said they don’t do day 3 anymore it’s only day 5 so it makes sense for them not to call but it feels like I’m waiting a life time! Thank you so much ☺️ xx
Hi Ziggyand BC, That’s a great start with 10 fertilised. My clinic asked me whether I wanted daily updates or to phone once, so pretty usual I’d say. Best of luck with transfer and frosties! x🤞🍀
Our clinic only update you once you are there for transfer day 5! unless they think only one or 2 will make it then they might phone day 3 for a transfer instead. You can phone yourself though for a day 3 update which I did and I also asked that they call me on day 5 with a further update as my wife and I were to decide between 1 or 2 embryos and as she isn’t allowed in the clinic yet (dam covid!) I didn’t want to have to do that alone getting news just before transfer. So in my experience it’s pretty normal and also likely means that at least a few embryos are still going. Best of luck for today 🤗 xx
If you are planning on having a day 5 fresh transfer then you only really hear from them about how many fertilisation and on Day 5 generally in my experience unless there is reason to call you earlier e.g. they are suggesting a Day 3 transfer because that has been discussed for you too or so few were fertilised that they recommend a day 3 transfer rather than a day 5 transfer. I wish you all the best today. You will need to thinks things through as to which embryos you transfer today e.g. do you go for the top grade ones or do you go for any low grade ones that aren't suitable for freezing so will otherwise perish but could still implant. Also will you be doing PGTA if you get enough (probably not at your age I would think). It can feel a bit bamboozling to be suddenly presented with all the information in a phone call then go in for a transfer when you haven't had a chance to think everything through so do ask as many questions as you need to of them. Best wishes xx
