Hi all. Last week I had my annual mammogram, because sadly my Mum got breast cancer in her early 40s, and her sister had it in her 50s.
I have no lumps to feel etc, but the one side has an abnormality on the mammogram. They phoned me yesterday. On Friday I am having a more detailed mammogram and an ultrasound.
So, another rollercoaster begins! And awful timing, just as we were about to start the access fertility donor egg programme.. put on hold for now.
I am fairly calm. I know that for ladies under 50 mammograms aren't perfect, and there are a lot of 'false positives'. Hubby has waves of panic, and boy, if I ever doubted it I know now he loves me so much. I am very lucky.
So hope it is ok! If it is ok, this will certainly be a shot across the bows to me to do more to keep healthy/decrease my risk.. better diet, minimal alcohol etc.... I also am eligible to have the brca gene tested but haven't done it yet. Will get it done.
Big love to you all xx

Oh crikey, is its not one thing its another! Glad you have your supportive hubby by your side and best of luck on this being just a little blip! Good idea to have the testing for BRCA gene when its on offer to you.xx
I'm in my early 40's and had my first mammagram a few weeks ago due to lump scare. As my family have a long history of breast cancer i was referred within days.
It was THE most uncomfortable experience and my boobs were really sore for weeks after. Thankfully nothing was found. My doctor informed me that it's not helpful to have regular mammograms especially at a young age.
However, if your doctor thinks that it should be done, just do it! It's better check yourself and have a good sleep while knowing that you are totally healthy!
Thanks all. Cinderella, I totally relate to what you say! It does often feel on the ivf journey 'if it's not one thing, it's another!'.. just have to keep going! Sorry mammogram painful for you Cammimile, glad to report for me it's just mild discomfort at the time not bad at all. Am feeling bit better and v hopeful all just a scare. And even if something should hopefully be very treatable at this stage. Roll on Friday!
