High AMH ?

I'm trying to find info on high AMH and what it actually means ? I don't have PCOS but high AMH ?

How high is your AMH?

I think there is a scale of what is higher depending on your age x

Ah, I see.

Well mine was 29.5 which they said was high, but they also said that was a positive thing and would mean lower level IVF drugs.

It’s all so confusing!

They put me on short protocol because I was high last time. But now they've put me on long ?! I'm trying to work out why ! It wasn't really explained today. I had my plan with the nurse so didn't get to see the consultant xxxx

Yeah the switch of protocols doesn’t really make sense, unless they are just trying something different.

I always think of questions as soon as the appointment is over x

Hi ICSIBaby86. A high AMH usually needs lower dose stimulation drugs as there could be a risk of overstimulation - hence starting you on a long protocol this time. An AMH of 15 is a good result. You could always ring and see if they will tell you what yours is. Good luck with the cycle. Diane

Hi there, it’s all very confusing but I think you can still have polycystic ovaries without having polycystic ovary syndrome. I think they say if you have 50 or more follicles that you are likely to have PCOS but if you have more than 30 you are classed as polycystic.

All this means is that you have to have extra monitoring during IVF - I had no idea about any of this when they did my AMH... but they put me on short cycle, 150 merional and first stim scan on day 7 (instead of day 8-10 normally) just to check whether you are over stimulating.

They will then keep an eye on you after egg collection to try and reduce the chances of OHSS. (I’ve not got to this bit yet... egg collection on Tuesday for me...)

Ooh thanks I didn't know that ! I had about 30 eggs last time but they could only get 17? So maybe I am polycystic! I'm feeling quite positive about this new protocol now, I'm hoping it will be quality over quantity. I should note my first round of ivf I was under extreme stress. I had daily panic attacks, an ear infection and was feeling very ill with anxiety! So I'm wondering if that was a factor to my failed transfers. Those eggs came from me at a time of extreme stress. This time however I'm feeling content and happy so I feel like my body will respond better 🤷🏽‍♀️ but who knows !! Good luck for your egg collection xxxxxx

I was similar, they counted 30 pre-cycle and told me I was polycystic but when I went for my day 10 scan there were 44!!! They’ve already said that not all of them will be mature enough to fertilise so I’m just hoping that we get a few which are good enough to make it to blastocyst stage.

Mental health plays such a big part in this so really glad to hear you’re in a better head space! Be kind to yourself! 😊
