Lying down after egg transfer

Just wondered who's clinic got you to stay lying down for 30 mins after egg transfer ?

My first clinic did ( great with full bladder) , but my second clinic just as soon as it was transfered kicked us out.

Just wondered if the laying down was old fashioned nhs

Hi, in my clinic they never kept me lying after transfer. Got dressed and left :). Got advise not to do much afterwards and so no...but not lying in the clinic.

in reply toLali7

Same as our clinic we use now then, I did think most just probably kick you straight out , but after the first attempt and been wheeled into room to lie down it came as a shock when we just got kicked out 🤣

I was never told to lie down after any of my transfers. I remember being so desperate for the toilet after my first transfer and them telling me it was fine to go as the embryo wouldn’t fall out 😂 xx

in reply toE_05

It was torture hubby was in the side room with me and kept making me laugh I thought I was gonna pee myself 🤣.

I think it's possible more common practice just to leave straight after transfer, but came as a shock after 1st time of lying down x

I’ve had three transfers and been told I can get up and use the toilet straight away all three times. It won’t fall out lol xx

in reply toTugsgirl

They used to say that there was a higher success rate if you are left to lie down after transfer for 30 mins , but now if you Google it , it says there is evidence that it doesn't help. X

I've had three transfers and I was surprised at my first one to be told off the bed you go and back to the room to get changed and free to go. I was expecting be trollied back, given a cup of tea told to rest 😂 I went straight the toilet too after my third because my bladder was so full x

I was allowed up and I promptly went to the toilet. The doctor then told me to go about my day normally. I think if lying down had any effect on pregnancy rates then you can rest assured doctors across the country would be getting patients to lie down after ET for hours....

in reply toKiraJean

My first consultant must of thought it did 😊 like I say maybe old fashioned NHS ways. Let's face it we have to trust what they say .... I was just curious

My clinic have a 15 minute laying down process after iui but not ivf, which I find a bit strange!

in reply to

I was going to say whoooo I'm not the only one that's done it then seen the not after ivf 🤣.

Maybe the iui is like if you lie down after sex .

I was told to get up and then refused! The nurse assured me it wouldn't fall out but i kept her talking for as long as i could. Only a couple of minutes before she threw us out.

Then just as we left i let out a humongous sneeze which I immediately said to my husband 'Its all over now'

in reply toemmab178

Awww bless you, the tactic of trying to keep the nurce talking sounds Good Lol.

I never thought it would fall out, but I did think it would settle better after been fired in 🤣.

It’s not anything to do with success it’s supposed to be health and safety as some women get dizzy after the transfer. Each clinic has their own rules but don’t worry. It won’t affect your chances. X

in reply toM_V_B

I'm not worried I was just curious if other clinics do it or not.....

I would imagine it's all about how much time between patients they get now and mines like a cattle market

My clinic had me relaxed for an hour after the transfer, they didn't even allow me to get up when transferring me back to my room from the stretcher, I was moved while laying down.... it does sound very strange to hear your clinic didn't relax you after transfer, I've heard women trying to conceive naturally are also advised to lay flat for 15-30 minutes after the action in the bedroom let alone after a fully paid transfer!!!

Where is your clinic?

in reply toRubinaa

We are in UK, it's a nhs clinic are you private?

They where like that in my first clinic wheeled out from theatre and left in recovery room for 30 mins.

Yes I'm with a private clinic, I am 6 weeks and 2 days now. Good luck to you too sweetie, just rest loads and the relax your mind...

Xx 🍀🍀🍀🍀

in reply toRubinaa

Congratulation on your pregnancy .

Thank you xx

I was sedated for mine so had to lie down for quite some time... it had never occurred to me that that wouldn’t apply to most people who don’t have sedation!

in reply toLizzielizzielizzie

It does feel strange been kicked straight out and it's not even " it might fall out ".

But what can u do other than trust they only have best interests in you x

Our clinic in Cyprus make you lie down for 2 hours after transfer! You have to use a bed pan 😣😵

in reply toBlondyboo

Oh god the things we have to go through , I suppose at least u didn't have to hold it in for 2 hours x

Rubinaa profile image
Rubinaa in reply toBlondyboo

Exactly, we might have gone to the same clinic??? I wasn't allowed to move either and I pee'd in a bedpan and THOUGHT my dress might have slightly got wet during the process (tmi) they dry cleaned it for me while I was made to rest. I was actually quiet impressed.

Ofcourse it wouldn't 'fall out' but it's beyond me why some clinics would ask you to leave straight away....

I've read a bit that says you're actually better to not lay down, something to do with blood flow, so my transfer is planned for next Saturday and I'm planning on going for a (short, gentle) walk afterwards. I even read a couple of times to have a glass of wine after transfer but I don't think I'll be doing that!

My clinic have you go home straight after they said you don't need to lay down.

You can read alsorts on the internet , can't imagine many consultants agree with wine.

Good luck for Saturday

I had my first fet last Thursday and they left me lying down in the room for about 15 minutes before collecting me and I could get dressed and go straight after that. I was pleased it wasn't longer as full bladder was becoming an issue. The funniest part was when they came back they caught my boyfriend doing a silly selfie in the surgical cap 😂

in reply toKittygoo

🤣 LMAO the things men do eh ! Lol.

It does seem to be the private clinics that do this though, I must of been lucky with my first nhs clinic

Nice to know I'm not going mad and there are other clinics that get you to stay laying down after transfers and I'm not going loopy lol. No it's not pleasant but worth it if you get your BFP.

Good luck on your 2ww x

I had to lie down for 20mins after transfer!! It was the longest 20mins ever with a full bladder!!! The joys!!!!

Actually I had heard that laughter is supposed to be good after transfer too - not with a full bladder though!!!

That interesting. Like a lot of others once it was done I could get dressed and go straight away. No lying down. I was surprised to as I was not asked to have a full bladder either. They just did it without. Hopefully all ways are right a ☺️

in reply toDreamingofbaby

Oooo lucky not have a full bladder 😊.

Yeah I think all clinics have there own quirks and beliefs xx

My clinic say no need for a full bladder either Scarlett - don’t panic lovely! xx

Scarlett13 they all seem to do things slightly different, think full bladder is just for the scan to show up better maybe your clinic has a better scanner . X
