I did IVF through NHS clinic within the local hospital but they also provide private IVF and agreed to do the beta tests on a private basis. Are you able to ask your clinic? Or local hospital? X

Tried to my hospital they don't do it unless I have the paper from my doctor

Hi pinto8. You could always ask the clinic where you had treatment?? Have you booked your first scan yet? Perhaps by doing that it will put your mind at rest. Thinking of you. Diane

Yes I had the earliest they had is on the 31st October and only then if I want I can do one but I think will be to late my tests keep coming back faint lines so I'm not hopefully at the moment

Hi pinto8. What about checking with the Early Pregnancy Unit? Otherwise your GP should be ale to arrange Beta hCG bloods on the NHS if there is any concern e.g. "feint lines"?? Diane

I've tried to explain that and she just went on the computer to check if she could give me the forms and just said no that it as to be my clinic.

I had a tough time looking for a private clinic too and eventually found one in canary wharf. It costed me £120

Following the first beta test my GP has given me forms for 4 BETA tests to be carried out on NHS (once every week) I am going to do one today, so surely they must do it. 😑

pinto8 in reply toRubinaa

They don't want to give me one and at the moment I think there's no point anymore

I panicked after a feint test but was reassured with very high hcg results after the blood test. I changed to a cheaper brand of tests and it came up really strong. I think the first response ones can be variable. Have you tried a different brand of test?

pinto8 profile image
pinto8 in reply toPurpledazzle27

Yes I've done the cheap ones and the lines keep changing but the first response today was very faint the digital from clearblue says pregnant 1-2 weeks don't know when it should change to 2-3

Filmgirl101 profile image
Filmgirl101 in reply topinto8

I had the clear blue say 2-3 weeks the first time I tested. The next time said 1-2! I panicked thinking all was lost, but That pregnancy was the only one that went to term... the others like you gave mixed results and I miscarried a week or so later. I’m sorry it’s so tough.

pinto8 in reply toFilmgirl101

Yes it is I can't even enjoy properly because at this moment I don't even know if I'm still pregnant. So many tests and still have two weeks to wait

Filmgirl101 profile image
Filmgirl101 in reply topinto8

If you can spare the cost, plenty of places do it privately and the results are super fast! I just googled til I found the cheapest!

pinto8 profile image
pinto8 in reply toFilmgirl101

At this point I don't mind the cost just want to know what's going on... I'm trying to find one but can only find a couple of them but just in London

Filmgirl101 profile image

I had loads come up... most of the London clinics have sister sites dotted round the country.

I've just returned after doing the the following tests on NHS and the result is due in 3 days:

Beta HCG test

Progesterone test

If your GP is not doing it then it's something wrong. See another dr at your surgery?

The problem with my surgery it's sometimes I don't even get past the receptionist so will probably have to go in and say I suspect I'm having a misscarige sometimes it feels they don't what to act

My friend has the same issue with her surgery, well I used to have this issue until I started dealing with the surgery manager ONLY. She is situated onsite and manages all drs and surgery staff, she even books my appointments etc and deals with everything. Maybe try that. Ask to speak to the manager if you cannot get across them.

Same for me as purpledazzle, first response tests faint but internet cheapies very strong. I'd recommend trying another brand.

I've only had my hcg tested once, my GP also don't do blood tests.

I googled private pregnancy blood test in Milton Keynes and a clinic called the clinic MK came up? Have you tried this one? Xxx

I'm trying to find out if they do hcg tests.

Thank you... hope you have a blessed pregnancy

I went to my gp and just told them I wanted a referral to the early pregnancy assessment unit. The unit then decided they wanted to scan and do blood tests. I think it helped that I was quite definite with my gp about what I wanted as an outcome from my gp appointment. I already knew that you can't self refer to our local epau. It worked in that I got an appointment the next day and the gp filled out an ultrasound request form for me to take with me as well.

Will probably try that I don't understand how it seems like they don't care just because it's an early pregnancy

Lizzielizzielizzie profile image
Lizzielizzielizzie in reply topinto8

I felt like no-one cared during my first miscarriage and it became a trauma partly because of that. I've just had my second one and the epau were very helpful. Talk to your GP about your anxiety levels, they don't always understand the mental distress that you are going through. Just the knowledge you get from blood tests and scans can make you feel more in control, no matter what the outcome eventually is.

I think part of the feeling of not being cared about comes from the fact that there are concerns around over-medicalising pregnancy: in many situations if the pregnancy is not viable then the body will deal with it by itself, i.e. A natural miscarriage. I think that doctors are concerned that referring people on will end in more d&c procedures or medical managements which they try to avoid. That's the best explanation I could find anyway. I hope you are able to access some help. We are here for you and we care.

Thank you so much for your words they really help.. I'm so sorry you've been trough misscarige twice I can't imagine the pain you felt. And it's true sometimes they just don't understand the stress that we've been trough will all the treatment and when we need some support they act like we just overreacting and we have to wait.

Ah Hun, my Gp is the same, as I’m having private treatment they are so unhelpful!!! It’s sooooo frustrating!! All I wanted was a blood test ! And don’t get my started on the taxes I pay. Blah blah blah!

Anyway I’m going to PM you where I’m going for my private HCG
