I still have 2 blastocysts from my first cycle on NHS, after two transfers I now have to pay and I was considering moving them to my private clinic. Both NHS and the private clinic are in London. Would you transfer them to the private clinic and how? Or would you have the transfer where they currently are and and do intralipids/tests etc with the private clinic? I can’t figure out how this would work!

How to move my 2 blastocysts to another clinic?
Hiya I don’t have experience of moving embryos but if you could move them I would so that your doing everything with the one clinic xxx
Hi, Great to have 2 blastocysts in the freezer! I moved my embryos from one private clinic to another (same overall company) in January as we moved house. I spoke to my clinic and they organised a courier, which we paid for and it was fairly painless. Perhaps talk to both clinics as i was told it happens quite often. There are plenty of forms to fill in (as always!) and I was moving mine in Dec so it took about a month to sort, but the actual moving part seemed easy. I’m pleased that I went for the move now! Good luck with it all. My couriered blastocysts are going back in today! Xx
Hi lovely, I moved mine from NHS to private and it was a bit of a pain. The private clinic arranged the courier but coordinating with the NHS was tricky. We finally managed to get it all signed off then they told us there was an admin fee of £180 and by that point I was sick of it so just paid it.But I would do it again because it made do much sense to do all the testing and transfer from one clinic xx
I have stopped counting the money we spend, honestly! If there is a fee we’ll just pay it although it sounds odd that there is a fee?! I will ask the clinic tomorrow what they think might be best. I did have 2 successful transfers with NHS so maybe they’ll just give me the drip at the private and let me have the transfer with NHS? Who knows xxx
Do you mind me asking you how long it took to move your embryos to another clinic? Apparently I have to move them or I can’t do immunes with them while having a transfer elsewhere!
Hi hun, to be honest a transfer isn’t a big deal from a medical point of view. The work (fertilisation and growth to day 5) has already been done so wouldn’t make a difference going to a private clinic (unless you’ve definitely lost trust in doctors there). If I was you, I’d do the tests privately but wouldn’t risk damaging the embryos by moving them elsewhere. Also, you’ll need to arrange the courier yourself (not a big deal but I imagine it being costly).
Lots of love xxx
Thank you for this! No, I don’t mind having the transfer with NHS again, as both transfers I had with them were successful! Next time I will have to pay as my free rounds are finished! I would like to keep them where they are but also have the support of my private clinic as for the NHS my miscarriages happened “by chance” and I don’t believe that!
I was just wondering who is going to be in charge of the preparation of my transfer?! They might have different views? Tomorrow I have the consultation with the private clinic and maybe I’ll get a better idea on what to do!
Oh I see what you mean…in terms of protocol I’d say the NHS given they have the embryos…but perhaps your private clinic can give you the additional medications they believe you need (if that’s the case). It’s very unlikely for different clinics to agree on protocols (which doesn’t help, I’m sorry). Having said that, the NHS doesn’t need to know what other meds you’re taking as they can be prescribed by the private clinic (if you’re afraid they may not go ahead with it).
For me it would be ideal to do the transfer with NHS as the hospital is just around the corner, and just be monitored by my clinic for intralipids, steroids etc. Yes the NHS hospital doesn’t need to know! This is what I will be discussing with the private clinic tomorrow. So far they haven’t pushed me to move the embryos there at all. Let’s see! x
Hi, I moved frozen eggs between 2 private London based clinics and it was relatively easy. The receiving clinic gave me a list of ‘movers’ that met their due diligence, so I contacted them. Of cos there are always forms to fill and costs - admin charge from the clinic that had my eggs, transfer fees for the courier and more admin costs from the receiving clinic. Probably cost about £400 on the whole. Ouch!!!I imagine it’s the same process with transferring embryos.
Good luck!
And I agree with other comments, you’re not obliged to give out more info to your NHS clinic than you need to x
