Miscarriage Tissue Testing? Please help x

Hi all, Has anyone had their miscarriage tissue tested? My doctor who we have been going through IVF at a private clinic said to have it done as it’s crucial for moving forward. However, NHS said no they wouldn’t do this for first MMC and won’t let me pay for it privately - basically Shot me down and said no way. Wouldn’t entertain me unless I have had 3 miscarriages.

They said I can take a ‘tub’ on Tuesday and they can give me the remains if I want them tested. Does anyone who or has anyone done this privately? I am in Scotland am not sure where I go from here to have this done 💔

Hi Blue - have you asked your clinic if they can put you in touch with someone?

I had my ERPC done privately for various reasons and they have sent the sac and tissue for a bunch of testing (there are concerns about a molar pregnancy, so it's a bit more clinically necessary). My clinic helped refer me to the gynaecologist who performed the procedure, who then took care of the testing side, so I think a good step might be to find who your clinic would have referred you to and maybe they can help you to piece things together. So sorry for this extra level of stress...

Hi Blue. No real need to do this with a first miscarriage, but it is down to personal choice. If you need to know, then have it done, but it is not usual first time. Diane

Yes I know the nhs don’t do it as standard until 3 Mc sadly. But given how many years and struggles it’s taken to even get to this point I want to do all I can to get the tissue tested. And hopefully gives us someAnswers for next round of ivf 🙏🏽 X

I came across this rule I was only referred after my third loss - i think it is cruel rule but my understanding is normally (🤞🏻) miscarriages are a one off event and most ladies that have one will go onto have a successful pregnanc & no reason to suspect at after one loss why the next pregnancy couldn't be successful . Recurring miscarriages are very rare (1-100) & even after my daughters post mortem( she died at 20 weeks) even after her passing so late they wouldn't consider us for miscarriage referral until we had had another 2 miscarriages whereas some CCGS would have 😞 miscarriage investigations & full post mortem we never got any answers why it kept happening to us ( happily we are now 16 weeks pregnant I will never feel safe until baby is in my arms tho) most losses will remain unexplained 🥲they sometimes just don't know why babies just one day stop 🥲 even if they don't know what cause was doesn't mean you couldn't have a successful pregnancy. 😊 sometimes as we age a bit it can be just a numbers game but after one loss I wouldn't suspect there is a reason why it would happen again to you. can your specialist recommend a private miscarriage clinic? You must do what feels right for you & I wish you the best. Very sorry for your loss it's most heartbreaking Xx

Yes so frustrating. I also asked to pay private but they wouldn’t help. I’ve since contacted other places and I might be able to take my tissue somewhere to be tested. Trying to find out before Tuesday. Just another stress but hoping this will help us move forward with next round of ivf xx

Hi there, I had 2 missed miscarriages last year. The first one wasn’t investigated as others have mentioned is very common. However, when I had the second miscarriage I requested to have this investigated, I offered to pay for it, the consultant checked my age and case complexity and agreed without too much thought to send the tissue to the lab.

I done the same with this clinic I offered to pay and the clinic refused. Given how many years it’s took to get here I would do anything to have it tested to give me some answers for moving forward.

I am sorry to hear that they refused. I hope they will be able to let you take the tissue for testing elsewhere? I am in Scotland too.. not sure where you would be able to have the test done.

I did, the results showed chromosomal abnormality, the most common ms cause. We did DNA tests to see whether it was random or not, and it was random. Very unlucky..

I’ve had 3 mc my 3rd I had a mva to remove the tissue I asked for the tissue to be tested they said there wouldn’t be enough because it was blighted a week after I had an already scheduled fertility app I hadn’t cancelled so used that as a miscarriage investigation app which they agreed too they said they would have tested the tissue so I was pretty pissed off at the time. All my other mc and fertility tests came back fine no reasons found just probably my age as I was 39. I have had a baby since at 41.
