Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has experience of raised prolactin? Just found out mine is raised when I did a hormone mini check to check my progesterone and estrogen, prolactin was just included and I didn't expect an odd result.
It was 616 mIU/L (range should be 102-486) MIU/L. I'm low AMH so not PCOS, and I have an underactive thyroid like some people on here (can cause raised prolactin) so thought someone might have experienced this? My thyroid levels are all controlled and ok so prolactin shouldn't be raised? Of course Dr Google says it impairs follicle function and fertility 🙈

Hi Orla9298, I too had a raised prolactin result (I have mild PCO, endometriosis and irregular ovulation) but it was a real unexpected result for me, ask them to test again as it can fluctuate due to stress etc.
I retested 3 months later and it had gone down, I believe (if you're NHS) they like to test a couple of times before referring you for a CT scan which I think is the next step...
if you've any questions feel free to message me, all the very best !! X
I had slightly raised prolactin and was put on bromocriptine to lower it my levels have dropped but I've still had to continue taking the medication Im currently in the TWW of my first IVF cycle doctor has advised if I get a positive to stop taking it x
I also had raised prolactin but there was no concernas I never had any symptoms regarding it. I mentioned a few times about this while doing my first cycle bet they weren't concerned. I have a review appointment in Oct after my bfn at the end of august and I'm going to ask to be teste again and if this could have effected my cycle. X
Hi Orla9298. Yes it is raised, but usually no action is taken unless it is nearing the 950 level and you get symptoms like a leaky white discharge from your nipples. I would concentrate on getting your thyroid levels within normal range, and hopefully the prolactin will come down a bit too. Hope all is soon sorted for you. Diane
Thank you Diane, that's what I was hoping to find out, at what level you need treatment. My thyroid is at a really good level with TSH around 1 and T4 around 20 so I was surprised it was raised, also I take DHEA for my ivf (agreed with consultant) which actually reduces prolactin so I'm concerned it would be even higher without x
I was on cabergoline for years due to high prolactin. Although i was bleeding i wasn't actually ovulating as a result. I would mention your concerns to the doctor. If needs be they will do a blood test to rule any problems out x
