Prolactin...

Hi all, wondering if anybody has had a similar experience...

I had a blood test in Feb 2017 and my Prolactin was raised at 550,

A retest in April showed a drop to a nice level of 300.

However after signing the final consent forms with our GP last week before starting our first IVF cycle I’ve had to do my bloods again and prolactin has come back at 611...

Does anybody know how this could affect our ivf journey? The nurse practitioner said it won’t affect our forms being sent off but that our clinic will potentially investigate further?

Thanks xx

One of the drugs I’ve been sent today prior to my next cycle of ivf says that it is not suitable for use in women with raised prolactin so maybe they will need to be careful about your drug protocol. But they are experts and they will know what are the right drugs to give you so try not to worry about that xx

I had my first failed icsi cycle in aug. My prolactin level was also high at 500 or so! I got put on a short protocol cylce as i was higher risk of over stimming but they were at no point concerned. I had a great response and they were happy. Obviously the result wasn't what we wanted but who knows really why that was. I start my 2nd cyclethis month when af shows, i had a blood test just to make sure all was ok and my prolactin level has now dropped to a normal level. Even tho my prolactin level was high first tome round i had no symptoms to be concerned about as i was having regulated periods . Good luck and fingers crossed for you. Your in safe professional hands so try not to stress. X

Hi lovely, thank you for your reply. They told me it fluctuates anyway and that later in your cycle it’ll be higher (I was on day 25 or something!) but they never mentioned that at the time of course.

Your story is reassuring so thank you.

May be a silly question but how does short protocol differ from the long one?

All the best for your next cycle xxx

I think different drugs over shorter period of time and obviously because im higher risk of over stimming. I was put on pill for 11 days then started injections. it was over a period of 5 weeks if im sure.x

As long as your ovulating, dont suffer from migranes and havi g regular periods i wouldn't sterss too much. They will keep you right and remember we all want a safe healthy pregnant lady at the end of this so just take in everything they say. They will only do 100% whats safe and best for you. Stay strong xx

My first prolactin was around the same as yours and mine dropped on the second one too. They hospital said they were happy and said stress etc can affect it to make it go up and down. I was playing ok so they were happy and didn't test it again. I know that doesn't help much but the hospital were genuinely not concerned!xx

Thank you for your reply sweets! It’s reassuring to know that it won’t hopefully affect our first cycle and that there is still hope.

Where in this crazy journey are you? It’s just one thing after another isn’t it x
