I am a single woman trying to have a baby on my own. I have had 4 rounds of iui and I have recently had my first round of ivf, which was unsuccessful. My feedback has been low egg quality. The doctor recommended taking DHEA and CoQ10.
Has anyone had a similar experience and followed the same course of action?
I wasn't told I had low egg quality but I took CoQ10 this cycle and 5 out of 6 eggs survived. 4 made it to top quality blastocyst which the embryologist was really pleased with x
Did taking CoQ10 improve your results? I had 19 eggs in my first cycle and only 1 had started to turn to blastocyst by day 5. This time I'm hoping for quality over quantity!
I think so, my first cycle I got 11 eggs and 6 made it to blastocyst but only 2 top quality. So although my numbers were less this cycle definitely seems like the quality is better.
Hi Em2804. I have heard of more successes with using DHEA when ovarian reserve is a little low. It's a bit like a steroid, so discuss it with your specialist before taking. I mentioned here recently, that a lady I spoke to took DHEA for 2 months prior to IVF and achieved 6 good quality eggs, 5 of which fertilised. Don't know the outcome yet, but it was a definite improvement for her. Likewise Coq10 seems to be helping ovaries too. Might be worth a try. Whatever you do decide, just wanted to wish you well and for success. Diane
Yes I took both for 3 months before my first round and got pregnant first egg transfer. Not sure if it helped but always believed it did, along with organic diet xx
Hi I took both Q10 and DHEA for maybe 2-3 months (can't remember exactly). Prior to this, I had low AMH and had 2 failed icsi. The 3rd time (after I took these) I got my best results - not more eggs but a BFP which sadly resulted in an early miscarriage. Am now going DE route due to my age, otherwise I would def do them again. Best wishes x
I took DHEA and although I didn't get a pregnancy I did manage to get to blastocyst stage! I do think that's what made the difference quality wise in my cycles but I'm older, I only got a 3 blasts over 2 cycles but think its definitely worth a try!xx
My clinic have recommended 25mg 3 times a day of DHEA, so taking that will be challenging! They didn't give a recommendation for CoQ10 so I went with a high dose 100mg
There are side effects to DHEA. My clinic recommended speaking to a doctor before taking it, so it might be worth doing the same if you have made the decision to take it yourself. And then someone can help you manage the dosage.
i started ivf at 38. my re prescribed Coq10 ubiquinol soft gel (not the ubiquinone one) 300mg twice a day (ideally for 3 months). I took prenatal bits of course, royal jelly and omega 3. I found it may have helped egg quality on my second cycle as I had twice more eggs and 5 day blasts. Did not have blasts on my first failed cycle. two week wait on my second now.
I have postponed another month. I'm struggling to get my head back in the right place and also the clinic said that DHEA peaks at 4-5 months, therefore I am going for 4 months. This takes me to egg collection between Christmas and new year!
Good luck!
Hi, I was recommended ubiquinol - a concentrated more easily absorbed coenzq10....
Not sure if it does anything! But I will continue to take it .
