Exercise and IUI

Hi,

What are your thoughts on exercise during IUI?

I used to do quite a lot of exercise including a boxing class and spin class and would really like to get back in to it but not sure what the rules are during IUI?

Just started second cycle on Sunday there.

xx

Hi. I really reduced my exercise while I was doing iui... I was paranoid that I would do something to upset my ovaries, then that I would upset the egg and sperm getting together, and then that I would stop any embryo implanting... looking back I could probably have carried on as usual as stopping didn't end in a pregnancy. Trust your own body... if it wants to exercise let it, if it doesn't then don't beat yourself up! Xx

I was advised not to do any strenuous exercise during IUI. I did gentle dog walks only, stopped running.....good luck with it!!! Xx

I find this a really interesting question. Everybody says something different!! I'm an avid gym user, lifting some pretty big weights & I was told to tone it down slightly so I reduced the weight. However, during the cycle I didn't actually feel like going to the gym, I was so tired & felt so "heavy" round my ovaries area so stayed away. I think as long as you use common sense & stop immediately if anything feels funny then you can continue! Good luck in your cycle x

I agree, it's whatever you feel comfortable with but I think if you're not a gym/exercise regular then probably best not to take anything up during the cycle. I walk quite a lot but since ivf treatment and bfp I've just been so tired. I've put on about half a stone and decided this week it has to stop!! (I was actually driving to the bus stop in the morning as my legs felt like dead weights! How sad!!). I'm about 9 weeks now and gonna walk an hour a day and do swimming. Not really a gym fan.... 😉

Totally agree & I think that is one of the things that is consistently said - don't start any new routine whilst undergoing treatment or through pregnancy!

Congratulations on your 9 weeks, hopefully you'll start to get more energy soon xx

Thanks, I think it was also the abundance of celebratory chocolate brownies in the first few weeks that were to blame, as well as lack of exercise! 😁 Healthy eating regime also back on track xx

I was told by my doctor to stop all exercise as exercise stresses the body and detracts energy from the reproductive system. However I have low BMI and was gyming four times a week plus cycling to work. I think some gentle exercise is good to de-stress, but I'd cut out anything high intensity such as running, spinning.
