Initial NHS gynaecology consultation for intramural fibroid

Well, I have been offered an appointment with a NHS gynaecologist to discuss my intramural fibroid tomorrow 16/08/17

I am concerned given my history with fertility services within Cambridgeshire, that I am again going to be fobbed off because of my age, weight etc, etc, etc.....(my husband and I are going private for IVF due to being fobbed off 5 plus years ago) I just have a gut feeling that the person we will be seeing will not be reading the referral notes from my gp and go straight to assuming that a hysterectomy will be the solution.

I guess that my biggest fear is to end up with a uterus that has been turned into 'scar city' and becomes unviable for embryo transfer, also I don't want an open myomectomy making it almost impossible to have normal childbirth should IVF be successful. Is there anybody who have had myomectomy's and had successful pregnancies afterwards and what were your experiences of the myomectomy process.

Thanks

I'm not sure if Nkoko will be able to advise? I seem to remember reading a post that she mentioned about fibroids and myomectomy X

WELL, that was a load of horse manure and a complete and utter waste of our time....should have gone with our gut instinct and not bothered!!! The NHS gynaecologist said we will arrange an MRI and a hysterecopy (or something) and then WE will decide for you IF a myomectomy is needed!!!!! God Damn, I would have thought that a medical director and specialist fertility consultant has just a fraction more expertise and experience than some government funded doctor.....this has only served me to continue with PRIVATE treatment of the intramural fibroid.....Having said that, I cannot fault the staff in general, it is the N.I.C.E guidelines and government control that screws everything up. O.K my rant and scream over with.....now looking forward to starting the actual IVF process on 25/08/17 in London.

Oh Yammie I'm so sorry. I've had many disappointing appointments so I know how hard they are to deal with- on top of what is already a tough journey.

A scan a few years ago indicated a possible submucous fibroid it was small it but due to the location the gynae agreed to remove it. Anyway I had a hysteroscopy and low and behold nothing was there! Scans aren't always right. I am happy to answer any questions you have on hysteroscopy.

Fibroids is very controversial- some believe they affect fertility others disagree.

If you're unhappy with the response you have a right to a second opinion xoxo

Thanks Jess1981, it means a lot that you understand. I feel awful compalining about the NHS guidelines and policies, knowing full well that a number of my friends are doctors, nurses etc who have to work in these environments and are just as frustrated from the other point of view.

Next Friday is when we are going back to the private fertility clinic appointment for an additional US scan for confirmation of severity of fibroid. I think that my husband said that we wil look at private treatment of the fibroid IF it needs to be removed. We will be starting stage 1 of IVF that day as well.

Changing jobs is not ideal either especially when the interviewer asks if I am pregnant or intend on getting pregnant in the near future.

Thank you for your kind words and patience.

Yammie

I wish you the very best with the treatment.

It must be frustrating for doctors to look at budgets and have to make decisions based on financial grounds. Its not giving the doctors the opportunity to do their best by their patients. Cuts are happening all over the option including the education system. ( I work in a school so I see first hand the effects of cuts)

I am shocked that an interviewer is allowed to ask such a personal question- surely that cannot be legal? I would call that sexual discrimination- they would not ask a man that question! I can't believe they asked that question in 2017!!! I wouldn't want to work for a company that felt it was their right to pry into my personal life! I'm sorry that was inflicted upon you.

I think you need to know if fibroid will impact on fertility or a future Pregnancy. You need to know you've given it your best chance. I hope the scan helps to clarify this. xoxo
