Should i still take my pessaries???

We had our 7 week scan today and the nurse said that she would not prescribe anymore pessaries as they are not needed but I have some spare from last time. When i asked her if I should continue she said it was up to me. Some women like to but they are not needed. Should I carry on???! What do they actually do??!

My IVF doctor told me to reduce mine to once a day until 10 days time ( i was on twice a day previously)-from about my 8 weeks pregnancy- I was told to reduce to once a day for 10 days and stop at day 10. So I should stop in a few days from now according to my ivf doctor.

I think you should listen to your ivf doctors prescription. I am looking forward to stopping it to be honest. I read it could causebloating and flatulence.

Cyclogest is a progesterone that helps prevent miscarriage. Because we did not give birth from a natural cycle, I read that our bodies ability to produce progesterone was affected hence, the prescription for cyclogest. As our pregnancy progresses it gains the ability to sustain without the need to continue to take progestetone externally- but you need to follow your doctors advice on when to stop taking it.

Good luck with your journey.

Mine said: strictly 12 weeks. The placenta takes over around 12 weeks, rendering the additional progesterone unnecessary.

Different clinics do have different rules so it's down to you. If you have got extra, it couldn't hurt to use them? I know they suck (I finish my pessaries today at 12 + 5 - hallelujah!!) but where is the harm in continuing IF it would make you feel (mentally) better. Good luck hun xxx

My mate who conceived naturally but has had lots of miscarriages fell pregnant again recently and started to bleed at 6 weeks. I asked why she wasnt on pressaries. She is under the care of the dogs b@ll@cks of epu consultants and asked him about it. He said no proof that the pressaries do anything and didn't prescribe them.

I'd gently ease of them though.

I was only prescribed pessaries for the two week wait so I'm pretty sure you're in the clear. Oh, and I'm 17 weeks pregnant now so clearly not having pessaries longer wasn't a problem!
