Hey everyone, I've not posted for a while , so after 1 NHS and 1 private cycle have both failed, the consultant mentioned either go again for a 3rd cycle or have karyotype bloods done ? Just wondered if anyone has had these ? He also mentioned comet test ? Thanks so much xx

Karyotype bloods?!after 2 failed cycles ?
Hi, i am sorry I don't know about these at all. Perhaps someone else does.. But i wanted to wish you good luck xx
Hey, In humans we should have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs). Karyotyping is used to indentify the number of chromosomes (to check if any are missing or extra) which can cause genetic, growth and development. My hubby had to have these done to check for cystic fibrosis or any other genetic problems due to him having a low sperm count. I would question the consultant as to what his thinking is behind having the tests, if there is anything in particular they are looking to rule out etc before making your decision as i would think they may be quite costly!xx
He suggested it just to investigate why the embryos seemed to deteriorate and fragment after day 4 , we had 11 fertilised and 2 transferred on day 4 but none to freeze so he wondered if there was something wrong with our chromosomes ?! Our gp will do the bloods for £224 (a huge amount less than what the clinic charge) x
That's good if your GP has agreed to do the tests for you! Fingers crossed everything comes back ok!xx
Hi Loulucylou1. It was good to read that your GP is willing to carry out karyotyping at a much reduced cost, if you do decide to go ahead with it. I feel it is good to have done especially if you suspect that either of you might be carriers of a genetic mutation. If a problem were to be found, then I suppose you would try PGS before the embryos were selected. The sperm Comet test checks out the DNA construction in the sperm and looks for breaks in the connection of the DNA, bit like a missing rung on a ladder (looks a bit like that). Often these tests are reserved if you have suffered 3 or more failed cycles or are over 38 years of age (female). However, your specialist will give you his/her best advice about both tests. Just wanted to wish you well with whatever you do decide, and of course for success this time round. Diane
A few friends of mine who had failed IVF-s and experienced mcs did karyotyping. It occurred that one lady had chromosomal issues, and was advised to combine her treatment with PGS NGS that worked for her. She got pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby. All the best
