Yup...never give up! I am 43 years old and underwent successful IVF abroad in May. Admittedly, it was with a donor egg (mine were no good) but if all goes well, we will be blessed with a son or daughter before my 44th birthday next year!
I have encountered at least 5 ladies on here - over 40 - who have had success with their own, or donor eggs. If you have the heart to keep going, please do, it is not too late!
We went to the Czech Republic (immensely happy with the clinic, a great experience! PM me if you would like more details) and yes, we were very lucky to fall on our first go! We have one frozen embryo in storage.
Official dating scan is early August but midwife reckons little one will make an appearance end Jan to mid-Feb 2018 xx
It was natural but she had been told she would not be able to have another child. Guess she was one of the lucky ones. My point was more about her age. Age is a number, never give up hope xxx
I'm also 42 and have de transfer tomorrow. We were told by the consultant at the beginning that it just takes one good embryo. Because of my age, 39 when I started, they always recommended de due to better percentage chance of success but it took me some time to accept that. We tried with my eggs a few times but now it's de. I'm still struggling to accept de to be honest but I feel I need to try everything. Sometimes I think I should have started de straight away.
The lovely ladies on these forums have given me hope and especially those ladies who have travelled down the de path.
It must be really hard for you that's my problem I can't accept the de route just yet. My AMH is 9.6 so for my age I think it's ok well no ok low but not under 5 which they recommend against ivf.
How many times did you try with your own eggs?
I'm scared it won't work and I'm left with no money to do donor route. It's so hard my partner is only 37 too which makes it harder.
Good luck for your transfer and the future the outcome is a future baby and 9 months from now you could be a mum best of luck xxx
I tried two fresh and one frozen. Basically, three times with my own eggs. I have always had good quality embryos to transfer. All of mine & partners test fine. Got bfp twice but ended in disappointment. Soooo unfair.
TTC for 5 years. It took me 2 years to accept de. My partner accepted straight away, he's been ready to be a dad for a long time.
I found it hard to meet donor coordinator when I'd just had a miscarriage and they were so positive about the excellent success rates with de. Then I was on waiting list for 6 months. I just keep trying...tomorrow in fact.
Please feel free to ask any questions. Best wishes x
Hi, Im 40 and tried 3 fresh rounds and 1 frozen with own eggs in UK.. Fell pregnant twice with singleton and single pregnancy.. Sadly miscarried.. It seemed my own eggs not quite strong enough.. Went to Athens in February and using Donor eggs fell pregnant and currently 22 weeks pregnant with a boy, due 16th November . I loved my clinic in Greece, alot happier than UK and actually all ran smoothly... Any more questions just ask xx x
It sounds like you have been through a very difficult time but I am so happy for you!
Allot of women are going abroad these days it seems very popular. I hear they use donors who are young and that their eggs are of good quality hence the high success rate.
Hi patty, yes alot are going abroad.. Not just cheaper but for alot nicer. I think if u find a UK clinic you completely happy with you so lucky... Donors are usually under 30 abroad.. Mine was 26, had a success before and also a mum. Only name I'm really liking at moment is Bertie, I quite like old fashioned names. Thanks for your lovely message.. Wishing you all the best with your journey ahead xxxxx
Hi Patty don't give up hope!! I am currently 44 and am 38 weeks pregnant with a little girl, she is my own egg! We did three egg collection cycles last year when I was 43 and we got 6 good quality embryos. This baby is the outcome of our first transfer of 2 FE in October last year. As an aside my grandmother had my aunt aged 46 (her 3rd child) completely naturally and when i saw my midwife on Saturday and I said 'I know I'm old' she said she's seen people up to the age of 52 have babies.....so it can happen!!! I also have a friend who now has 2 sets of young twins under 3 from using DE - she carried them all and breastfed them all and she is in her late 40s and she is a very happy but busy mum! Good luck to you which ever route you choose xx
Hi Patty, I turned 41 in May... did my first round of IVF with my own eggs... have 4/5 frozen and transferred 2, 5 day blasts on the 1st of June... I'm now 9 weeks pregnant! Oh and I'm from South Africa...
I don't have a happy ending for you but I just wanted to say hi and wish you lots of luck with whatever you decide. I'm 43, I've just recently tried and failed at ivf using my own eggs. I'm now pretty much where you're at. My Amh is lower than yours 4.8 but I've been advised by the NHS clinic we were at that ivf won't work for me and we should go the de route. Though I know there are ladies my age with lower 'stats' than me who have gone on to get pregnant with their own eggs, like you, I don't have the money to pursue all the options endlessly. My partner is totally up for de but I'm still struggling a bit...it took me quite a while to get my head around using a sperm donor. We did this because of my partners inherited heart condition - I got there in the end! He keeps telling me that we have to focus on what would give us the best outcome. I think he is probably right! 😌
Anyway, I wish you the very best of luck with whichever route you take! Xxx
Thank you I've decided to go for it using my own eggs I've gone for the package with manchester fertility.
All I can do is try keep positive after all it only takes one.
If this option doesn't work I think DR abroad? The thing is their are so many options now available and we have to do whatever it takes to get the end result. I've only had one try at IVF which failed so I owe it to myself to at least give it another go (well I've paid for 2) goes.
I'm wishing you the best of luck for a healthy baby xxx
Hello. I'm 42 & gave birth to my beautiful son in April. It was our 4th round of IVF with the CRM in Coventry. I had very low AMF but by some miracle we did it! Just one embryo out of 6 eggs. Don't give up if you can afford it!! I believe my acupuncturist was a massive contributing factor to our success! Good luck 😊😊
I know I've just seen your post £3'300 is a massive saving it's only like a three week holiday which clinic are you going too? Are you using donor eggs x
