Starting first cycle - Any advice?

A little about me. I'm 39 and my OH is 41. We conceived naturally on our first month of trying 18 months ago but sadly miscarried at 10 weeks. I had a ERPC and my periods stopped for 10 months. Finally started again but very light. Laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and numerous tests later found that my uterus is atrophic (not much blood supply) probably from scarring from the ERPC and my amh is low at 3.4. This was a shock as we conceived so easily first time round.

Anyway I'm due to start norithisterone on 4th June to kick off our first cycle with the NHS. . Really excited and nervous and any help would be much appreciated. Xx

Hi Jacs

You are not alone. Feel really sorry that you missed your previous one. This is true that according to age ovary stops functioning well. You might know that Amh values indicates the function of Ovary. If the values are more that means the ovaries are doing well. Mine was 7.7 still low. But Im on stimulation now.

Don't worry much. I know telling someone is really easy but experiencing is much difficult. We all have kind of different problems but hopes are always there.

Start with fresh. Very much good luck.

So far good going. On 7th day today. Need to continue until Monday have my second scan. First scan was done on 5th day. Follicles are growing well but could see nicely in left. Right one is quite.

Looking forward to my scan %)

I'm sorry to hear of your mc it must of been deversating for you both. it's good to hear that you did manage to conceive naturally and that you have treatment coming up. It's only natural to be nervous it's all unknown and nerve racking but this is a great forum to share your journey with like minded people who are going through the same thing and can provide great advice and support . Just take one step and each day at a time and best of luck for a positive outcome xxx

Thanks for the reply. Yes it was heart breaking and then almost a year of not having periods. I'm in a better place now we are about to start and I've had to stop trying to convince people something isn't right! I'm excited and hopeful and trying to have loads of positive thoughts 😀 x

Good I think it's so important to be in the right frame of mind for treatment and it can be a battle to get there are you well know.

I know its so hard to fob people of and pretend all is fine for me it's my work colleagues they are only concerned but I'm not going to come out to my whole office and be like I'm struggling to have a baby so trying ivf that's why I'm always at the doctors.

Keep the positive thoughts going xxx

I know what you mean at work. I have told my boss and the person who reports into me in strict confidence and let the others just gossip and second guess. I work with a lot of men so they can be quite tactless. At the end of the day it's your business and nobody else's x

Hi Jacs0008 I too conceived relatively easily the first time and then miscarried 18 months ago. I was so disappointed then to have to undergo IVF treatment. It felt like a real blow and I was nervous how it would go. We had our first round of IVF in March, unfortunately it wasn't successful but the process of injections, egg retrieval and transfer were nowhere near as bad as I thought it would all be. Wishing you so much luck on your journey xxx

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It is very difficult. Thanks for letting me know it's not as bad as you expect. I'm just trying to think about one step at a time 😀 x

Just wanted to send you lots of luck. I have a low amh (0.4) - I've seen women here your range having successful ivf; I remember being insanely jealous of a number I didn't really understand.

I have a little tip for starting your injections... don't let it control your life... in my first round I made sure I was home every night at a certain time... it was more stressful that the injections and I felt I missed all the sunny weather! Do nice things together... it's a new and stressful thing you're starting. Make sure you have time go for a nice meal and a glass of....juice! Lots of love x

I am. Opted for donor eggs with my amh. But worth it. Hope they stay there! Thank you! x

in reply to emu2016

Hi Hidden ,

I'm sorry to hear about the tough journey you have had so far. I thought I'd say hi, as I am a low amh case at 2.3 (I'm 33) and I start norethisterone on 31st may, so just a few days ahead of you. This will be my second round and I am on short protocol which I assume you are too? Feel free to ask anything if I can help! I am getting really excited again too, drugs arrived yesterday. Much as it is a bit nerve-racking, it really is nothing to worry about. Xx

in reply to Orla9298

Hi. I've looked at your thread and I have an under active thyroid like you so we've had a similar journey. I don't really know what short or long protocol is? All the jargon is a little confusing! I go back to the hospital on Wednesday to collect my drugs and can't wait. Think it will be real when I have the in my hands! X

Hi Jacs0008,

have you had any acupunture? Or can be a great way to get more blood flowing to the uterus. I've heard that certain kinds of exercise can help too. Might be worth looking into?

Good luck x

in reply to Llama1

I've been having fertility reflexology which I think does a similar thing. I was thinking of trying acupuncture but had it a few years ago for migraines and didn't really like it. I've not seen any exercises but have been trying hot castor oil packs which are relaxing but messy! Thanks for the help xx
