First timer feeling overwhelmed!

Hi Everyone, this is my first post! I received all my medication yesterday and was rather overwhelmed by the sheer amount of it. We start our IVF treatment in May and this is all still very new to me and I found this forum when researching on the HFEA website. So really I just wondered if anyone has any advice for me (us) as we begin this (somewhat terrifying) process?

Thanks 😊

No advice as such; just take it one appointment, one injection, one scan at a time. You can do this! Good luck 🍀 X

hi & welcome to the group 😊 I would say however bad you think it may be in your mind it won't be nearly as bad- that's the one thing I would have wanted to know when starting to make me feel a bit calmer. In terms of medication yes there seems loads but you'll be surprised how quick you get through it all. If you have injections to do I've found that using some ice to numb the area a bit before doing it helps a lot to reduce any pain & again after the 1st few days Injecting will become 2nd nature. Egg collection is the one thing most of us are worried about when we first join thinking will it hurt, what will happen etc but I am on my 2nd round of ivf and both times being sedated I haven't remembered anything about the collection & the egg transfer is a bit like a smear test but with a full bladder needed. The 2week wait you may feel like your going crazy symptom spotting etc but any questions if you post to the group we are always here to help xx

Hiya this is my first time on ivf also and I'm on day 5 of the injections the bag of medication is really over whelming I know the feeling hun...my advice is to just take it day by day and go with the flow the nurses and who ever u deal with will go through the process with u each time u see them if u are anything like me everything will stress and worry you it the nurse told me that each visit they will go through everything over and over...x

Hi Amt17,

Welcome and exciting your starting your journey.

The drug package can be a bit daunting but its not as bad as it looks!

Hard to give advice as everyone deals and copes with the process differently but just try and be patient with every stage, dont think too far ahead and ask any question that comes into your head no matter how silly you might think it is.

This forum is great and each journey brings its only highs and lows for the women on her but the one thing we all have on common is the treatment and the feelings it brings.

Wishing you all the luck in the world on your journey to motherhood xx

Hiya,

Glad you found this group, when I started my first cycle this time last year I too remember feeling overwhelmed. When the drugs arrived and I opened the box, I cried lol. I found myself feeling soo impatient about everything, just remember itching to get to the injections so I knew I wasn't far off egg collection. As Laura mentioned, I would definitely ice the area so u don't feel the injection. Also I too didn't remember the EC as I was completely knocked out. But just remember anytime u want to rant or seek advice or share your experience, this group is full of wonderful people who are always happy to listen and help. Best of luck with it all xxx

I would echo that. When I picked up the meds I remember thinking there's no way I can do this. I literally just broke it down to day by day and even with extra injections thrown into the mix I can say it's flown. I had my EC today and it seems to have come round so quickly xxx

Welcome. Take it day by day and be kind to yourself. If you want to vent at any stage, we are here for you xxx

Hi amt17 I'm due to start my first round very soon and yes I think the meds bag is a bit overwelming at first but it is daily meds for a few weeks and a lot of it is packaging and it will be taken over a period of time so try not to worry, I know this is a silly thing to say but you just have to keep the end goal in sight and take each day at a time xxx
