Hello and welcome!

I just saw that no one had replied yet - I'm hoping my ivf will start in Feb 17, to give an idea of time I first went to my GP in March 2016! I was unlucky for 2 months with an appointment I couldn't make, and also I took 2 months to myself during this to look into private clinics when I found out we couldn't have nhs funding.

Have you been referred yet for anything? Xx

Hi, yes we have has tests for my partners sperm count and they checked my ovaries and I have no problems and was told we had to wait for the 2 year trying mark before we go back so will be going back in Jan or Feb depending on appointment. Do you mind me asking why you couldn't have NHS funding? X

Hi Lea,

Welcome to the board! I have done three rounds of IUI and am currently in the 2WW after our first IVF cycle. The whole process is a lot longer than we imagined. We had our first IVF consultation back in May and then you just wait until you get an appointment. My phone call came in September time to say that egg collection would be 21st November. I started a 21 day course of the pill in October, then two weeks later I started to down regulate. Once the pill had finished I had a bleed after 3 days and then on day 5 i had a scan to check the lining of my uterus (make sure the down regiulating has made it thin enough to then stimulate) - I then started the stimulating injections which I was on until my tigger shot roughly two weeks later, then egg collection after 36 hours. They got 8 eggs, 6 fertilised and we did a 2 day transfer with 2 embryos last week (the other 6 were developing too quickly!)

So that's my story in short form!! Hope that helps you :) xx

Thank you for sharing your story with me :-) I hope it all goes well for you, have you found the process emotionally hard? X

Hi Leadorset. Often a first appointment is with the nurse and involves further blood tests being carried out to check for HIV, Hepatitis, and chlamydia. Probably check out your hormones again including AMH. A further semen analysis ordered if any problems with the last one. A chat about the protocol that has been recommended for you, and how to give yourself injections, plus when these will start. Then there will be some legal paperwork to fill in, which you may have to take away for GP to sign. You might be invited to an open evening to learn all about the process from start to finish, although this is not always offered. An internal scan of your ovaries may be done too to check for any cysts on your ovaries, in case they may need to be dealt with before treatment starts. Arrangements may also be made for you to have a laparoscopy or an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) to check your tubes if required. Can’t think of anything else, but wanted to say good luck with it all, and hope all goes OK, and you manage to find a "buddy" on here. Diane
