Constant sickness after egg collection

My wife had egg collection for IVF today and had 24 eggs. She has been sick pretty constantly since. About 4 times on way home and still being sick since. Phoned clinic but they didn't seem concerned. Anyone else experience the same thing?

Oh no :( did she have local or general anthestic? I've not been sick myself but have read a few people have.

Well she was sedated so I guess that is local?!

Yeah it would be, could still be having a reaction to that. I would say if you're really worried maybe call the nhs number for advice.

I am sorry to hear that it's probably the sedation it makes me throw up too, takes upto 24 hours to clear your system I think X X

Thank you for your replies. I'll keep an eye on her to see how it goes.

I was sick when I had a general.

That's a lot of eggs collected, so just watch out for ohss. Make sure she drinks lots of water and her output should reflect her drinking of fluids.

Don't be worried about having to call the clinic on their emergency out of office number if they have one?

Yeah have been checking for ohss symptoms but only one she has is sickness. She is drinking as much water as she can but it keeps coming back up every half hour. They do have an out of office number so I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again

Did she manage to eat anything before leaving the clinic?

Yeah she had a biscuit but that came up on the way home

I know she probably won't want to try, but when I've had general they like to get you to eat and drink...maybe she could try dry toast?

She's gonna try some plain popcorn so will see how she gets on with that

Fingers crossed...sleep will probably help too...good luck

Was she offeres the antisickness tablet which should be given through the iv drip just before the sedation medicine? If I don't have it i'm always sick off the sedation/general anethestic. Hope she recovers soon and how nice that you've come on this site to check for her! 👍🏻

No but they did ask if she had suffered sickness before when she had local anaesthetic but she hadn't. Maybe that's why they didn't offer it. Maybe they will next time if it comes to that.

Yes its worth remembering for the future. I was sick in my teens after general anesthetic and every since if I have an op/sedation I always ask for it even if its not offered. I've always been fine since and can eat and drink straight after.

raybey1 in reply toMommaBear16

She's stopped being sick and has eaten a bit more so ok thanks. Other than the news that none of the eggs fertilised :(

I'm so sorry to hear this :( This process can be so cruel.

I wish I could say something to make it better, lots of love to you and your wife. Take care x

Oh no...can't believe that's happened...have they given you any indication of why?

Glad she is feeling better in not being sick anymore, but you are both probably feeling everything else instead now :-(

They just said the sperm and eggs weren't binding. At least that gives an indication as to the cause of infertility over the last few years. Think icsi is the next step. See consultant tomorrow so hopefully know more then
