How bad is bad?
Partners sperm tests came back generally low I feel, but what does this mean exactly for our chances? Has anybody had any similar results explained?
Seminal volume : 2.5 ml
Sperm number: 23 x 10/6/ml
Concentration : 9 x 10/6/ml
Motility : 38percent
Morphology: 2 percent
:/ help anybody?
I don't understand what they all mean but my hubbie had a similar result first time round, consultant told him to go on well man conception and the next test results were actually a lot better.
We will be doing IVF in the next few weeks using his sperm so hopefully you guys will be fine too!!x
Hi MichelleLMH. Unfortunately, your partner’s semen analysis is low. A bit low on numbers as there should be 20 million or more per ml. Motility ideally should be 50% and the morphology (shape of head) 30%. Usually, a semen analysis is repeated 2 months after the first one if there is a problem, to check whether it is consistent or not. As things look at the moment, it seems that you will probably need treatment with ICSI as there are only a few normal shapes and they are a bit lazy swimmers. Occasionally, a result like this can be due to a virus e.g. flu, trauma or even surgery in that area as a child. There have been some studies done where a slight improvement has been made by taking a multivitamin tablet with extra zinc and selenium too, so might be worth a try. Remember no smoking and minimal alcohol intake too. It seems scary at the moment, but there are sperm that can be used. I hope all works out well with whatever treatment is decided for you. Diane
