Low Sperm Count

Hey.

So, I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck getting pregnant with a partner who has a low sperm count? And do you have any tips on how you found you managed to improve your chances?

My partner and I have been trying for over a year now and we’ve just had his sperm analysis back and he’s got a low sperm count.

I’ve done some research online and I know there are some things we can do to improve this naturally. But I think what I feel my heart is searching for is some hope.

Sending my best wishes to all of you.

Hi Saskia,

I think taking supplements can help - my husband has been taking Impryl for the past 4 months.

But if you opt for ICSI it shouldn’t be a problem as long as he has some healthy/normal sperm.

good luck!

We had the same problem and we did icsi. I have a 4 year old daughter now and one on the way!

hey yes, this is actually a very common occurrence and leading reason why ivf is necessary. It was in my case even though my partner is 8 years younger than me. And yes! I’ve researched how to improve sperm and sperm count and the consultant at the time advised my partner to do certain things too and his sperm count did indeed improve. Other elements of his sperm went down as this went up though and in the end it was always borderline which is why we were accepted for ivf.

So here are the things your partner can do: recommended by the consultant: exercise (my partner went running 3 times a week); taking the wellman vitamins.

I found the reason for exercise is exercise induces testosterone which improves sperm

What I’ve read - eating walnuts, avoiding alcohol and what I haven’t read extensively but im sure of and have read a little - avoiding caffeine. Caffeine is a huge fertility offender for women I do believe it might be similar for men.

Hi. Saskiahope. There is a chance you can improve motility and count a little by giving him a good quality multivitamin with selenium and zinc in. The usual no smoking, no alcohol and a sensible diet that includes dark green vegetables and Brazil nuts and seeds. Loose clothing and no hot baths. No mitacle cure but room for some improvement. Leave two months between each semen analysis to allow sperm to mature. Good luck. Diane

hey. My husband had extremely low sperm count due to a decended testicle when he was young. His count was 0.1million per ml of sperm. We had ICSI and have a gorgeous baby boy! Try to keep hope! It works!!
