Hi there had my consultation yesterday and been told instead of ivf I have to get icsi. Not really sure what the difference is could someone please explain ? X

Icsi is when the pick out a single sperm and inject it into the egg to fertilise it instead of ivf where they would put both sperm and egg together hoping for them to join together alone, hope this helps x

Hi xema88. ICSI is just a stage further than IVF, and is used if there is problem with the sperm and sometimes in failed IVF cycles. You will have seen it on television when talk of IVF is on. They actually show you an egg being punctured with a needle containing a single sperm (ICSI). This just looks more dramatic for the cameras, where IVF looks boring! This continues with all eggs that are retrieved during treatment. Diane
