Sorry if this is something that has been asked a lot, we had our initial consultation yesterday and my AMH came back at 37.2 (I’m 30 years old) is this a good figure?
Also we’ve decided to proceed with IVF but the consultant mentioned having IVF/ICSI split. Anyone had experience of this and what’s your feelings on it?

Hi lovely, I think that's a good number for AMH - I actually have no idea what mine is.So when we started IVF our consultant said they would do half IVF and half ICSI on our collected eggs, but actually they just did IVF in the end as they fertilised fine on their own. I think sometimes they offer ICSI as a back up in case the sperm aren't doing their job.
In my opinion if your sperm are fertilising your eggs on their own then there's no need to interfere with ICSI. xx
Hello 🙂, thank you for getting back to me. Yes I tried looking online for references of AMH and there were loads of different versions, glad it’s a good number though.
I agree with the ICSI, we don’t have sperm issues from the SA results so I didn’t think it was necessary but didn’t want to cut my chances either if that makes sense xx

Mine is 9.73pmol/L and I’m 30.. so mine is significantly on the lower end of normal I believe. I’d think 37.2 if measured the same way is healthy. Did your consultant explain what it meant in terms of fertility? Mine just told me not to worry about it ... and with egg collection, I only got 7 eggs but all 7 fertilised and 6 made it to blastocysts. Whilst I was disappointed with 7 given my age, I was so grateful that I had a strong fertilisation rate. We needed ICSI also because our issues are with fertilisation (my husbands sperm refused to fertilise my eggs on their own 🤔, so our issues are with sperm morphology).

No she just said it was fine so I didn’t really know then what that means for my fertility etc. Do you mind me asking if you knew about the need to use ICSI at the beginning or did you only find out at fertilisation stage?
Hope that makes a bit of sense. Although we both seem to be fine nothing is happening so I don’t know if we are achieving fertilisation.

Of course.. so we had all of our tests done privately before knowing IVF would be our best option. When my husbands sperm analysis came back, we were referred for IVF and our consultant at our first appointment said we would need ICSI for fertilisation.
You could ask to do 50/50, so have half ICSI and half to have a sleepover and see if they get on?

Thank you for that, yes the consultant did mention an IVF/ICSI Split, I wasn’t sure if it was standard practice or not you know. I’m just anxious to get started now, but I know I have to be patient, be a couple of months yet I expect. Good luck with everything xx
I guess it can’t do any harm in doing a 50/50 split.. I wouldn’t know tbh. All I know is that for us, ICSI was necessary. If they’re suggesting it, then go for it.

Mine was 3.4pmol at 39 said it’s low and I’d need donor for ivf if we had treatment which we weren’t offered. I’m nearly 41 and conceived naturally in September I’m 24w pregnant.

I think that's a positive number 
I had read quite a bit on AMH recently and what it does is gives an indication of how many eggs you have left and how you will respond to ivf treatment (high amh can indicate lower stims needed) What it does not tell you is the quality of the eggs, that's why even women with lower amh end up falling pregant naturally or with ivf.
Mine is 11.4pmol at 34 which I panicked and had sleepless nights about as I thought it was low but after researching found it is prob about average for my age or defo not low enough to cause worry. Remember they can only base averages on those people who have actually been tested (generally those going through fertilty treatments or part of studies) so many many woman who fall pregant naturally will never know their amh!
What I chose to work on is egg quality through healthy eating, no alcohol, less caffeine and supplements. That way the eggs that get retrieved will hopefully be in good quality (or so they say!)

Thank you for your reply, you’re exactly right I need to concentrate on quality now while I have time before. I don’t drink alcohol really so that’s a plus and I’ve ordered come ubiquinol and omega 3 so hopefully they’ll help for then the time comes 🙏🏻 xx
