Hi I am looking for advice and any experience that you can share with myself doing IVF/ICSI abroad. We are looking at Prague but there are so many clinic to choose from I feel it’s a bit of a mind field on which one I should go with. Thanks x
ICSI/ IVF abroad, Prague, : Hi I am... - Fertility Network UK
ICSI/ IVF abroad, Prague,
I can help a bit with this, although I haven’t got personal experience yet. I spent a while researching clinics in the Czech Republic & have now made my decision about which one I will use if I do go down the abroad route. 1st thing I did was basically make a spreadsheet with all the clinics on it, I literally just looked on Google for all the names. Then I eliminated any which were not properly licensed. They have to be licensed by the SUKL & it’s also good if they are ICO accredited. After that I made a note of all of the procedures/add ons/tests the clinics provided & picked the 3 which suited my purposes best. I then set up a free chat with each of those clinics to see which one I preferred. Simples 😂
Hi, Thank you for your reply that is a great idea I will look into it. It’s so over whelming when you start to look at abroad. I have had 3 goes in Scotland 1 NHS and 2 we paid for I have heard good things about Prague 🤞🏼
Yes totally overwhelming but if you break out the old spreadsheet you’ll soon whittle them down! I personally think it’s best for everyone to go down this route as it ensures they pick the clinic which best suits their needs, as what’s right for 1 person may not be for another. Once I had my top 3 I did look at quite a few reviews etc to make sure there weren’t any awful ones but do take all reviews with a pinch of salt as you can’t please everyone & some will give a bad review simply because it didn’t work & that’s not fair on a clinic as there’s no guarantees in IVF.
definitely a good idea the way you did it. I’m in my last round with the NHS but I’m very tired of them. If this one does not work out for us I’ll go abroad in March. My close friend has a very good experience with a clinic in Czech Republic (also was recommended by someone else) but I’ll do my own research keeping the recommendation in mind.
Hi we went with Gennet in Prague.Age 40 low ovarian reserve, endometriosis and under active thyroid. We could not recommend them enough and although we are extremely lucky to be blessed with our miracle baby on the way after being given less than a 10% chance of it working(2nd attempt) we would of had no hesitation going with them again if it hadn’t worked out for us.Feel free to PM me.x
Alternatively you can go through a cmpy like ‘Your IVF Abroad’ who will work with you to select the best clinic for your needs. However this does cost a fair amount of money
I am going abroad to cut cost, I will start tomorrow looking thank you. I would like to start it in March right now I have fertility reflexologist working with my I have tried Accupucturist and Chinese herbal. I am taking all my vitamins so I will be ready by March it gives me 3 months for some good eggs 🙏🏻
Hi. I am with Reprofit in Brno. The clinic is immaculate & the team there are amazing. Check them out, I’m happy to answer any questions you may have if it helps xx
We did donor egg treatment in Brno, Czech Republic. Happy to send over details privately if you like?
Hi Nicola,
I also went to a clinic called Gynem in Prague for treatment and although we could not fault the staff and the people we dealt with I would say that given the choice to do it again I'd stay here in the UK.
My reasons would be that after our IVF failed and we looked to go to Leeds fertility... we were sent a lot more information preparing us for how it works and what to expect.
Leeds had short videos going over the various stages of IVF and what each one entails. We didn't get anything as such from Prague and now I can see we were actually quite unprepared for what was to come. If you've had IVF before then maybe this won't even be a problem for you but it was our first time and after some shocking test results not long before, my choice was most likely a little rushed as I was in a panic so please do make sure to take the time to do your research and try not to rush anything.
we did research but I was in planning mode as per the results I'd had and as it was the first time we were doing IVF we had no ideas of what to expect.
We did also go to Prague to try save some money and it is cheaper than the UK but we had to fly out to collect the drugs and then come back to the UK and wait to start them, that was rather stressful. We then went back out and decided to stay for the 2 week duration to keep stress levels as low as possible but of course that's extremely hard and soon gets expensive anyway.
The cost worked out not far off what we'd have spent here in the end. Plus all my annual leave from work was used up so we could not travel back after for more rounds of IVF.
I'm not wanting to out you off as everyone's circumstances are different and we chose Prague to releive the every day stress of life whilst we had treatment and that did work to a cetain degree.
I just felt that once we'd come back and looked at a further round with Leeds we felt they had a lot more insightful information to provide before treatments even discussed. Plus they offered counselling before during and after and if you had back up embryos (which I unfortunately did not) you'd not have the stress of getting back to Prague to have further transfers.
That being said the clinic was amazing, clean, the staff are friendly, comforting and very supportive so I'd recommend it if that is your preferred choice. They have good success rates but of course a lot have very similar rates and given everyone circumstances are so different you need to ask what success rates they have for people on your situation and not just in general or overall for eveyrone. I didn't know to ask that until after.
I wish you all the success and
hope you find the best clinic for you x
I also was treated at Gynem last year - Prague is a beautiful city, and I enjoyed my time in the city, the clinic is immaculate and I can't fault my co-ordinator, she was really attentive and helpful in the lead up to treatment, but after our cycle failed, all I received was an email to say it had failed and was offered no further follow up, no phone call or any information about what happened. I had to contact them a few weeks later for my medical notes and partial refund, so I was a little disappointed with their handling post treatment.
With hindsight I would have waited a few more months after my first round and gone with a clinic in the UK - although treatment is cheaper, the additional costs of flights (we had to go twice, the first time for 3 days to buy the meds) and accommodation for 2.5 weeks, made it around the same cost - plus the added stress of being away from home during an emotional time. I was able to work out there, but my husband couldn't get the time off so only joined me for 3 days - although my mum & sister did come for a weekend!
Although my round was unsuccessful, I have a friend who used the same clinic and is currently nearly 20 weeks pregnant from her first cycle & FET there, so there are positives. I don't want to put you off, as like I say the clinic is really lovely and does have success stories - my experience was more down to the failed treatment, and looking back there were a few things that bothered me, but of course had it worked, those things wouldn't have mattered!
All the best with whatever you choose to do!
We are also looking at Prague clinics. A friend has recommended one where she had success. I'll PM you.
