Starting buserelin tomorrow

Hi, I'm starting my injections tomorrow of just buserelin for 2 weeks. Only just starting worrying tonight about the needles, bruising and side affects. It's just the unknown.

Does anyone have any tips for the actual injecting?

Also any ideas on what side effects I should expect?

Hey Hun I dreaded the injections too! Not something I ever imagined doing myself.....but rest assured they aren't really that bad at all!

Pinch you skin before you inject & it isn't too bad at all. Put the needle in straight (not at an angle). The needle is very thin so goes in very easy! I did get some bruising and found myself to more tired than normal but apart from that nothing!

Deeps breaths Hun & after a few days it becomes easier & think of your ultimate future goal :-). Best of luck Hun. Xx

Thank you, I found it ok this morning. No bruise . So I think I just did a lot more worrying than needed.

No side effects today but prob takes few days to get in the system... So we shall see

Xxx

Hi Victoria, the jabs are okay once you get used to them. I had a lot of bruising the first couple of weeks- every time I'd end up with a bruise- but it seemed to get better thereafter the longer I was injecting.

Side effects for me mainly on buserelin was fatigue, dodgy tummy, disturbed sleep, and a loud or 'whooshing' heart beat in my ears at night (very annoying!). I have never felt so tired and had to take a short nap some days. I was also easily irritable!

None of the side effects were fun but they weren't particilarly awful either- except the fatigue. I'm just not used to feeling tired as I like to maintain regular exercise and generally keep on the go. Everyone is different of course but and least you might have an idea what to expect.

Best of luck with it all :) xx

Hi there!

Wishing you luck on this cycle first of all :-)

I am a nurse and felt extremely anxious to inject myself- really bizarre to do it to yourself! But like the others have said, once you have done a few it does become easier.

My top tip is to make sure the needle goes right in so that none is left out- I'm used to injecting children & we always leave a little of the needle showing so that if they wriggle and the needle breaks off we can get it out lol. However for adults it's better if u can push the needle right to the skin. Otherwise the fluid will collect under the skin layer and u may find u r covered with little bumps! The injection will still be absorbed but it's better to push right in. I had a little itchiness each time but that settled after about an hour.

Like the others I was tired at random times, then awake in the night! But my worst side effect which myself or my hubby didn't prepare for was the low mood. I felt so very very down. I thought I was cracking up and convinced myself I couldn't handle it all! Spoke to one of the IVF nurses who quickly reassured me that the buserelin is like inducing the menopause so feeling low is perfectly normal! By the time is started reducing the dose and started gonal f my mood really improved! Make sure you have a really good support network around you xxxxx good luck! xxxxx

Thank you for the tips, made me feel less silly for being nervos. I found it ok so hopefully should be fine from now on.

Thanks for the support x

Good luck Victoria09, I hate needles and had my hubby do mine for me! We found a 90 degree angle worked best/was less painful (only a couple of seconds of sting at worst). I only got one awful bruise and bled a little from one injection and was told we may have hit a blood vessel. The nurse said to try to avoid the faint blue lines on your skin.

One side effect I wasn’t expecting was lack of concentration. I really struggled to be productive at work and assumed it was just the stress of it all until I read it was a side effect in the drug info leaflet. I also had a pounding heart at night, like WeeMrsH, abdominal cramps and a headache. But none of these were dreadful and I know I could do it again if this round doesn’t work.

Good luck, don’t worry it’s really not that bad and you’ll feel so proud once you’ve started! :-)
