Norethisterone before IVF

Hoping to start our first ivf cycle in around a week. Have been given norethisterone to bring on my period before then, anyone else used this?

Hi Rosiebuns,

I was given Norethisterone in May this year to take for two weeks at the start of my first IVF cycle. I read all the possible side effects and was a bit worried about taking it but can honestly say it was fine and i didn't have any of the side effects that are listed.

After i finished the course i expected to get my period so that i could have my baseline scan but it never arrived and to my amazement and disbelief i found out i was pregnant. I conceived two days before starting Norethisterone after three years of trying. I don't know if it was something about the fact i took Norethisterone that made the egg implant. I guess i'll never know. I am niw 25 weeks pregnant.

My advice would be try not to worry and don't expect to experience horrible side effects you might be lucky and not have any.

Hi Tracey34, I am so happy to hear your news and overjoyed for you. Did you had to take time off from work during your start of Ivf? I'll start Ivf in a couple of months and want to keep it quiet and don't want my work colleagues to know.
