Norethisterone before IVF short protocol

Has anyone used Norethisterone before a short ivf protocol when they don’t get periods (I have Ashermans)? Do you know why they start stimulation the day after finishing Norethisterone in this case, but if someone uses Norethisterone prior to an ivf cycle and usually has periods they insist on waiting until day 1/2 of the period to start stims (which can be up to 4-6 days after stopping the Norethisterone)? Has anyone had the rationale explained to them in terms of what’s happening with the body hormonally? I would assume my hormones are the same it’s just my lining isn’t there. Hope my question makes sense, I know it’s a little specific

Norethisterone is a type of contraceptive. I was given this on my first cycle. For me. I don't understand the logic of prescribing contraceptive to someone who is trying to get pregnant. This cycle I was not put on Norethisterone. Have you asked your clinic for an explanation?

Hey x my specialist told me the OCP is used to shut the ovaries down for a short time to give them a rest and get rid of any follicles that maybe trying to develop so when you start stims your ovaries are fresh and all the follicles grow at the same rate. Just about to start on our third cycle. I’m on the pill now for a few weeks before starting stims.Really hoping it’s our turn this time.

Last cycle was with a new specialist and had me on super high dosage so I got lots of eggs but not great quality. Only 2 fertilised unfortunately 😞

This time we will lower the stims and hopefully get better quality 🙏

Good luck on your scan !I also remember they use the pill so they can control timing for egg collection etc.

Good luck with the next cycle! Yeah I’m on max dose stims this time. I have no idea what to expect from this scan, I fear the follicles will have somehow disappeared/not be doing anything. It’s a rollercoaster isn’t it? What’s the next protocol you’re trying? Best wishes xxx

Thanks 🙏 I haven’t received my cycle plan yet from my specialist so I’m not 100% sure but we discussed decreasing the dosage so I’m happy about that. The first scan after starting stims is nerve racking. I hope it’s good news for you 🙂

I hope it goes well for you. Today is day 5 of stims and only 4 follicles. I know I wasn’t expecting loads and im usually a realist about things, but it has really disappointed me and makes me wonder whether the cycle will end up being cancelled. It’s such a crazy experience ivf, there’s nothing quite like it is there?

Yeah it’s crazy. I think when I started I was very naive to it all. I thought first go and I would be pregnant. It does happen that way for some which is good.

It’s hard when u see lower numbers but all those four could make perfect embryos so don’t worry.

I got 14 eggs last collection and only 2 fertilised.

You could get 4 eggs and all fertilise perfectly 🙌

You just don’t know and it only takes one.

Try and stay positive and just take it one step at a time x

Thank you. You’re so right, I know exactly what you mean about the expectations you have going into something and then being met with the reality. When I think about before I started ivf the first time I had no idea about my endometrium being an issue, knew I had a low ovarian reserve and AFC but being under 35 I hoped quality would be ok and remembered expecting maybe 4-5 eggs max but not giving failed fertilisation a thought, so when I got 2 eggs from 5 follicles and neither fertilised and my endometrium hadn’t grown past 3mm I realised how far the reality was from initial expectations. Our first cycle we got 100 % fertilisation and 2 blasts. Both BFN ☹️ So I never thought fertilisation would be an issue 2nd cycle and when we were told 2 of 14 only had fertilised I thought they were joking.

Age is not on my side but I will have a baby and that will and determination won’t change for me.

We will try a few more rounds with my own eggs but I will move to donor if I have to. This round I’m putting every ounce of positivity into my body to get the result I want.

Hi! I am using Norethisterone at the moment. I don't know the explanation, But I have a break of about 5 days before I start injections. In this time I am suppose to have a bleed and after start injections. My opinion is that they use Norethisterone to delay your period. Maybe I am wrong. All I know is that I can't wait to finish this tablets because they make me feel really down and depressed. Good luck with your cycle!

Yeah I know what you mean, I didn’t feel great on them at all! I’ve been really emotional this week, not sure if it’s the stimulation or just the pressure of it all. First scan today, don’t have a great feeling but it will be good to know where I stand so far

I also was on them to delay my period. My they had an emotional effect on me - I took them for 20 days! Stopped on Thursday and started bleeding Sunday - today has been the biggest clot I ever saw (sorry TMI)! Meant to be first scan tomorrow and injections to start Wednesday. I think the purpose is to make sure the regime fits - last time I was on buserelin and that seemed to not be as difficult to fit!
