12 weeks pregnancy - utrogestan pessaries extended to 16 weeks?

hey all, had my 12 week scan today (soooooo happy to have made it here!) and will be having my final Lubion injection this evening šŸ„³šŸ„³šŸ„³

The consultant at my hospital has said she would like me to consider with my pessaries until 16 weeks because of previous chemical & miscarriage (ivf clinic had initially said to continue to 12th week and then stop). I also had some bleeding at the beginning due to a small hematoma so donā€™t know whether that was part of the reason too šŸ§ anyway, im sure I read that our bodies take over with progesterone in week 9-10?

Just wondered whether anyone else has continued with these pessaries until week 16? I donā€™t really mind but am just curious as to whether anyone else was asked to do this? X

I had a haematoma as well and the EPU recommended I take Cyclogest until 16 weeks and my IVF consultant concurred. They both mentioned this trial called Prism conducted by the NHS if I remember well. I took a downgraded dose (2 cyclogest a day instead of 3 + Lubion) and i didnā€™t think much of it. Many women around me were very anxious to stop the progesterone by 12 weeks whereas I couldnā€™t wait to get off it by 16 weeks lol It did its job I suppose as Iā€™m 28 weeks now šŸ˜

Hahaha yes Iā€™ve seen a few anxious about coming off! Personally Iā€™m thrilled that the injections are finishing this evening because Iā€™ve managed to dread them literally every single evening šŸ˜‚ kinda donā€™t mind the pessaries and I guess I should see it as extra reassurance - though Iā€™m sure itā€™ll feel great in the 16th week to not have to set any more alarms for all these meds šŸ˜‚

Congrats on your pregnancy too šŸ§” how have you found it so far? X

Same! I was overjoyed to stop the injections at 12 weeks and by 16 weeks I could not wait to stop shoving things in me šŸ˜†

Iā€™ve had a tumultuous first trimester due to the haematoma that took me to the a&e, but I got regular scans from the EPU because of it so I canā€™t complain. We got to see our little blob grow in real time.

In the second trimester I felt that I could finally breathe a bit easier and once I got my energy back, I felt like I could do all my regular activities, so that was amazing. I also got a personal trainer and Iā€™ve seen a pelvic floor therapist early on, to make sure Iā€™m doing all the right things, and have barely had any aches or pains. Iā€™ve also seen an acupuncturist every few weeks which I feel has helped massively with my emotional wellbeing and my anxiety; iā€™ve definitely noticed the difference when i didnā€™t go for a month, but all of that can get pretty pricey and takes so much time as well! šŸ˜¬ it helped me sail through the second trimester though. Weā€™ll have to see what the third trimester has in store for me!

How are you feeling now that youā€™ve reached this huge milestone? CONGRATULATIONS!

Hahaha totally know what you mean about sticking things in šŸ˜‚ so annoying being out and about and having to find a toilet around the pessary time. Canā€™t wait to only go to the toilet when I actually need it!!

Has your hematoma healed now? They didnā€™t say anything about mine in my 12 week scan but also feel they didnā€™t look for it šŸ˜• though mine was apparently quite small to begin with.

When did you start with your personal trainer? Iā€™ve literally been toying with the idea of getting one! I went to gym classes before this transfer and have not done any exercise since as Iā€™ve been too scared. Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s okay to start šŸ‘€

Also any tips on the pelvic floor therapist front? šŸ˜‚ feel thatā€™s something I should also probably start thinking about now, though I feel like giving birth is so far away, Iā€™m literally only JUST feeling like I can start to enjoy this pregnancy because maybe itā€™s sticking around for good!!

So exciting that youā€™re in your third trimester! Whenā€™s your due date? X

Yeaaaaah you should let yourself enjoy this pregnancy from now on! The stats are on your side after 12 weeks and the second trimester has the lowest incidence of emergencies compared to the first and third, so hopefully you can focus on the stuff that makes you feel happy and relaxed. But you can always go in for a private scan if youā€™re wondering. Tbh I had so many scans in the first trimester that when I got to week 12 I just couldnā€™t be bothered to go back to the hospital for anything else lol i was ready to start enjoying the pregnancy. Once the baby starts kicking as well, youā€™ll feel less dependant on scans as the baby is giving you real time feedback.

I had a pretty big haematoma about which they said it might take up to week 16 to fully heal, but they stopped talking about it around 12 weeks and whenever I asked, theyā€™d say that they canā€™t see anything but if itā€™s still there, itā€™s probably small. So probably not something to worry about if it started small. Especially if you donā€™t have any brown discharge or bleeding still.

Yeaaaaah Iā€™d been told as well, because of the haematoma, that I shouldnā€™t do anything too strenuous so I just did walking. But since everything seemed fine at 12 weeks, I started doing the pregnancy workout from What to Expect (I can send you some screenshots from the book if you donā€™t have it), and then at 14 I restarted with my PT. Sheā€™s been pregnant herself and seemed to know what to avoid, as the first workout was very similar to the What to Expect one. Theyā€™re way easier on you when youā€™re pregnant and you get lots of breaks and water sips in between sets. If you do start, just listen to your body. If anything hurts, your heart goes racing, you get breathless, just stop and take a break, change what youā€™re doing - no one will judge.

Iā€™ve only properly started the pelvic floor exercises around 18 weeks I think. Before that, I tried that app from NHS called Squeezy but the physio wasnā€™t a fan. Iā€™m planning for a c section but still, I thought it wouldnā€™t hurt to keep things in check, especially as around that time I would get a little leak when I sneezed šŸ«£ the exercises should help with that. In my case, I was doing my pelvic floor exercises too well and I was putting my whole body into it lol So the physio got me to do them lying down with my knees bent up, with my hands on my abs. She emphasised I need to be super relaxed, to breathe all the way through the counting and to not engage the abs while doing the pelvic floor exercises. Otherwise itā€™s the classic pretend youā€™re stopping yourself from peeing / lifting a pea with your vagina muscles / holding in a fart. I find the pea prompt most useful. Relaxation of muscles is just as important as squeezing them so in my case she recommended 7 x 7 seconds squeezing while breathing 3-4 times a day, and then 14 seconds relaxation and visualising my pelvic floor muscles opening after each squeeze. She also advised me on how to hold my posture during pregnancy (basically bring pelvis in as the spine will naturally get even more curved and that might put more pressure on the lower back). Hopefully that helps! I think other people might be doing all of this stuff way better than me, but I know about myself that I have terrible muscle coordination.

Iā€™m due end of Feb! So soon!

hi , I came off cold turkey at 10 weeks and then ended up back on them until I was 16 weeks if I remember rightly . I had a heavy bleed coming off them at 10 weeks and nice guidelines say they are fine to take until 16 weeks . I then weaned myself off by 1 a day and then believe it or not half a day for a couple of days . Seems ridiculous now but I was so worried . Anyway all is well and my boy is due next week ā¤ļø xxx

congrats on such important milestone!

I weaned off progesterone injections at 12 weeks, but still continuing with the Cyclogest pressures - the clinic wants me to take them until week 24. Feels like an overkill but I guess thereā€™s no harm from extra progesterone and just extra precaution šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
