For IVF pregnancies, what week in your pregnancy did you stop taking estrogen and progesterone?

Hello Lovely ladies,

I had a question about when each of you stopped taking E2 and Prog after your Embryo Transfer.

Did you'll have an FET (modified or fully artificial) / fresh transfer?

Also did you'll wean off gradually or go cold turkey.

Im currently 7w 2days. My OBgyn has told me to take everything in my same current dose (no tapering off) upto 11 weeks. But I was reading about how people are stopping estrogen about a week or two before Progesterone.

In a fully medicated/hrt FET, when does the placenta take over?

Look forward to your helpful replies.

I stopped at 12 weeks for both and I was also on clexane and stopped that too. I did wean off progesterone for a day or 2 at 12 weeks just to make myself feel better. Placenta takes over between weeks 8-10. I had a fully medicated FET with prostrap down reg. everything was okay at 12 week scan a few days later and I’m now 15 weeks (o did the same with my little bit 3 years ago). Hope that helps xx

hello 😊 I had a fully medicated FET and I continued to take both until week 12+6. I didn’t wean off at all, just stopped taking it one day! Felt weird and nervous about it, but it has been absolutely fine! I was taking utrogestan (2x3 a day), prontogest (1x every 3 days) and estrodol (2x 3 a day) hope that helps! xx

I think I stopped both estrogen and progesterone at around 12/13 weeks. I ran out of estrogen first but only by a few days. I had a fully medicated FET with DE. The clinic were happy for me to just stop both medications however I wanted to reduce gradually. They supported this to put my mind at ease and prescribed a further week or two of progesterone so I could wean off it, going to every other day and then every few days. The placenta takes over between week 8-12 but usually fully functioning by week 10. It is nerve wracking for us though!! Good luck with your pregnancy.

Hello, I had a fully medicaated FET and stopped taking everything at 12 weeks with no weaning off. The only think I stopped earlier was Prednisolone and I stopped that when I got my positive pregnancy result. I was anxious about stopping everything cold turkey but am now 26 weeks pregnant. Just for a bit of reassurance I booked a private scan a few weeks after stopping the medication as I felt the wait until 20 weeks was a bit too long. Congratulations on your pregnancy and wishing you all the best. Xx

Hi, the nurse told me that we only need the medication to 10 weeks and could stop then but my clinic give everyone an extra 2 week ‘buffer’ and advise to stop meds at 12 weeks. She said by 12 weeks you absolutely don’t need them and you can just stop cold turkey. So that’s what I did and it was fine x

I had a modified transfer and weaned off progesterone injections at 10 weeks. Didn’t take estrogen since I ovulated. I also took Lovenox which I stopped completely at 12 weeks.

I'm only on progesterone, have early pregnancy scan tomorrow at 7+3, my clinic have said to stop at 8 weeks. Last time, when I had my daughter, I took 12 weeks but kind of tapered it myself as I had some spare. I am going to ask them about it a bit more tomorrow for some reassurance!

Hi lovely, I’m currently 13+4, I stopped estrogen and progesterone cold turkey at 12 weeks. I was so anxious but reassured that the placenta would’ve taken over at 8-10 weeks xx
