miscarriage scare

Hello, I know no one can help and I just have to wait and hope for the best but I just need to get this out. I’m 6 weeks 1 day pregnant and I’m Saturday night last night and this morning I had brown discharge in my crinone applicator. I know this can be normal but I also had cramping yesterday afternoon (which also could have been constipation, which has been relieved now) and I had similar in January when I miscarried at 6 weeks 5 days. I live in a different country to my fertility clinic and we’re just working out flights for me to go and have an early scan but I just feel like I know what’s going to happen. I also feel like my symptoms have faded. Trying to remain hopeful but am just feeling broken hearted. This was my 6th transfer. The first three didn’t work at all but after a laproscopy and removal of my left fallopian tube I’ve managed two pregnancies out of three. I’m pleased I can get pregnant but I’m 43 and am using donor eggs so was t expecting miscarriages to be an issue especially as I’ve done all of the blood tests to check for miscarriage risk and nothing has shown up. Anyway I know there are no solutions and no one has a crystal ball but I appreciate being about to get this out 🙏

This is a worrying time for you Brown staining is common in early pregnancy and symptoms can come and go Maybe try your local early pregnancy clinic for early scan or blood check for pregnancy hormone

Thinking of you

Thankyou. Unfortunately there isn’t an early pregnancy clinic here and the medical care isn’t great so I was thinking I’d just wait. It’s a hard wait but last time my HCGs continued to increase normally (I ended up checking regularly because of spotting) and I had a scan at 6 weeks 4 days and saw the heart beat then miscarried the next day so I’m hoping I can just get a scan for Thursday or Friday and confirm everything is ok and maybe get some additional medical interventions if necessary that wouldn’t be available here.

I know this is an anxious time and it's really scary to see blood. Small amounts of brown blood or staining can be completely normal. Are you on pessaries? They can irritate the cervix. But just being pregnant causes so much to change in the area - massive increase in blood flood and the network to support it, stretching, things moving around... These can also explain cramps (later on round ligament pain to me felt like being stabbed on one side and I ended up on all fours a lot trying to breathe through and i was terrified at first). Then there are things like haematomas, polyps and growths that can cause bleeding - I had bleeding from my cervix throughout my first successful pregnancy from some sort of benign growth. I had two early losses before that at a similar time to you though and sometimes even 'perfect' looking embryos don't stay, it doesn't mean it will happen again or always. However, if you're in the UK you can get in touch with your local EPU or go through your GP for a referral - they should do a scan and bloods. You can also get a private scan and/or private bloods. Seems mad to get a flight for something that can be done in the UK and I'm assuming you want to know what's going on as soon as you can if you're already trying to fly to your clinic? Maybe worth getting your progesterone levels checked if you do get bloods as progesterone stopped the bleeding I had in my first pregnancy, not sure it made a difference to the outcome but my consultant said you can't have too much and sometimes it can help.

Thankyou. I’m actually based in Mozambique where the medical care isn’t so good. I do have a doctor here who does my early pre transfer scans but I think my clinic are suggesting I go there (South Africa) as the medical care is better so they can probably recommend increasing my progesterone or other things if necessary. Or in the worst case scenario they can test the embryo which isn’t possible here. I am on pessaries so really hoping it’s just irritation but combined with the reduced symptoms and cramping it’s hard not to think the worst. This is exactly what happened last time but my HCG then continued to rise normally and I saw the heartbeat on 6 weeks 4 days and then miscarried the next day. Anyway, I guess I have just wait and see and hope for the best 🙏

Thank you. I think I set it up when I was still in the UK but then I moved here and didn’t think to change the profile :-)
