When to stop Cyclogest?!

Hi,

I'm so confused and now anxious as my IVF Clinic told me after 12 weeks mark to ask my Midwife if I need to continue the Cyclogest.

Asked my Midwife and she for unknown reasons was very rude about it and said it's nothing to do with the Midwives and they won't advise me on Cyclogest and that I should contact the IVF Clinic.

I've tried calling the Clinic but they never answer the phone line so have sent an email explaining what the Midwife said and have asked for clarity.

Now feeling very stressed and anxious about it all and feeling a bit upset about the way the Midwife spike to (silly I know) but seem to be getting emotional over little things.

Anyone on Cyclogest 400 (twice a day) when did you come off your Cyclogest and did you stop immediately or wean yourself off?

I have 1 weeks worth of Cyclogest left and wondering should I do 1 a day now to wean off it rather than stopping abruptly?

Any experiences of this please I would like to hear from you!

Many many thanks! 💜

It is really bizarre for the clinic to tell you to ask your MW. Did they have a specifc reason? MW should not have been rude but I can see why she would be confused and say it was nothing to do with her. Most ladies stop between 7 and 12 weeks depending on transfer type. If you have a history of miscarriage, low progesterone etc the IVF clinic may prescribe for longer. Definitely worth pressing your clinic over xx

definitely nothing to do with your midwife (though sorry she was rude) - your clinic shouldn’t be telling you to ask her- they should have given clear guidelines. The only person outside of your ivf clinic who would tell you to carry on after 12 would be a consultant etc if you were at risk of weakened cervix or sub chorionic hematoma etc. Otherwise coming off at 12 weeks is pretty standard.

I know loads of people that stopped it cold turkey around then and were fine! But yes do one a day to wean off for peace of mind xx

Just reiterating what the other ladies have said, definitely not for your midwife to advise. If you can’t speak to the consultant, can you get hold off the nurse at the clinic? If you feel really stressed and prefer to talk to them, I’d just turn up at the clinic, explain you could not get through via phone and ask to be seen/book a telephone consult. Otherwise weaning yourself off for a week sounds like a good plan. Good luck xx

Hi! My clinic normally gives progesterone for 8 weeks only. They gave it to me for 12 weeks because of a bleed I had due to a subchorionich haematoma. I weaned off it gradually in the last week lowering the dose. It worked well. If anything, the cramps I was having in the first 12 weeks stopped as soon as I stopped the progesterone. Good luck!

Hiya I stopped at 12 weeks cold turkey - had been anxious about this and called the clinic - they said I could gradually reduce during week 11 if I wanted to but cold turkey was fine. I'm now 14.5 weeks and feeling so much better being off meds!

I was told it was fine to stop at 8 weeks but I could carry on to 12 if I was worried as had previous losses. I stopped at 12 and didn’t wean myself off.

Thank you ladies for sharing!

I've had no reply from the IVF Clinic (will chase them up) but I do feel much more reassured hearing all your experiences so it's much appreciated.

I have 1 weeks worth of Cyclogest left and have decided to do 1 a day then will be off of them.

Thank you everyone xx

hiya my clinic told me to stop at week 10 but I was also worried as I’d heard some clinics advise to stay on until week 16! Midwife was the same at my appointment, persuaded her to speak to someone else and they also said to stop.. think this is the issue once in the ‘nhs system’ we are all seen as they same, no special treatment :( it was hard but so far I haven’t had any issues but the stress was terrible at the time (currently 13 weeks)
