Sharp pain in vagina 17 weeks

hi everyone

i Was wondering if you have ever experienced sharp / shooting pain in the vagina (area where you would put a tampon, sorry for the details!)

I asked the midwife she said it’s normal as it’s the uterus stretching. It’s been happening since week 14 more or less.

I googled it and found that it’s called lightning crotch but it should only happen in the 3rd trimester so I’m a bit confused..

Thank you in advance for your help ❤️

Yes I’ve had it on and off since first trimester. I think it is lightning crotch- more common in third but can happen in any trimester. I searched on mumsnet when I was worried and saw loads and loads of people with the same - so that softened my worry a little!

yes I had that, also in second trimester and it seems really common. Not entirely sure what causes it but then it went away and I forgot about it until I read your post 😂

Yes totally normal xx

hello! I see this is an old post but wondering did the pain ever resolve?

I’m 16.5weeks and am experiencing a similar sharp pain like something is pushing against my cervix almost constantly and shooting the pain downwards. It will lessen briefly but then start again. The next scan is at 20 weeks so it feels forever to wait. I called the nurse and she said take paracetamol, it could just be growing pains, and go to hospital if any bleeding or gets significantly worse.

Have others experienced this and had it go away on its own?

Hi 👋🏻 I think I kept getting this throughout the pregnancy with no complications. It’s just your body changing and preparing for the big day! As long as there’s no major bleeding it should be normal but I am no doctor so definitely keep getting checked if you’re worried
