Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. This is nothing but a moan really so sorry about that!
I had my first midwife appointment booked for this morning, been super excited and just really pleased to have made it this far as my last 2 pregnancies haven’t. Sod’s law, last night my partner took a covid test as we both felt a bit rough and turns out we both have it. So far seems mild and not too worried but of course had to cancel and they can’t see me now until I’m 13 weeks (and after my 12 week scan!). I know it’s probably not a big deal but can anyone remind me what tests they do at the booking appt? I know it’s mainly info taking but want to check I’m not missing any early care xx

that's rubbish! I hope you guys feel better soon! we had covid (with current newborn) when we were just over 3 months, I had blood thinners from the midwife and had to keep checking and recording my oxygen and temp. I had called the midwife line rather than my midwife (this was after my booking appointment). I don't know if the advice etc has changed or if it just depends on circumstances. This time at my booking appointment it was just the addition of a chat about any issues with our first pregnancy and put under consultation care again xxx
Thanks Holly! I think I’ll give the midwife line a ring tomorrow if I’m feeling any worse, I’m really not too bad at the moment, more annoyed to miss my appointment and be stuck in on my week off 😂 Hope you had a lovely Christmas xxx
hey solly that’s really unfortunate I hope your both ok .At the first midwife appointment it’s all yours and hubby family history as far as I remember then your weight too and they normally ask if you want the bloods done then for the downs .I don’t think there is anything really important that you would miss apart from what I mentioned .Hope your both better soon xx
Thanks love, we’re both ok and Teddy seems fine 🤞 That’s what I thought, I think I’m just sore about missing the appointment because I was a bit excited tbh 😂 xxx
Hope you feel better soon Solly! My booking-in appointment with the midwife was just doing all the questions about medical history and any previous pregnancies, blood tests, weight and height, urine sample, and then her giving me my notes. We also discussed where I'll have the baby and talked briefly about options there xx
Hope you get better soon! I had it at a similar time and had to move my midwife appointment too.
Really frustrating for you - hope your dose isn't so bad.
The best advice I got was to go for walks when I had covid. Obviously if you feel up for it and well enough. We live in a remote area so I could walk and not see anyone. Was helpful for circulation.
Xxx
Hey Solly, eurgh gutted to hear you are poorly but whoop for the weeks ticking by for you!
Like the others have said my first midwife appt was pretty admin focused, a huge questionnaire about history, medical etc and that was about it. Even when I was told I would need to see consultant etc none of that was done until 16 weeks plus. In my area the blood tests are all done at the same time as the 12 week scan not by the midwife.
Hope you are feeling a bit better sickness wise and covid wise xx
Fantastic news for the big 1-0!! My ‘new week’ day is Wednesday and I still long for it to come round to tick another week off! Keep soldiering in and get well soon xx
hey. The booking appt is mainly a fact finding mission I think (I also had a little cry - as I did in all my appointments till about 30 weeks). They also do your bloods, but more standard things like blood type/ iron levels etc. As holly mentioned, they also advised me to take aspirin from 12 weeks as it was post IVF. May be worth contacting your midwifery team to just check if they want you to do this too. It may be great to have this appointment after your scan. Means you can ask them about any queries you have!
