30+3 swollen ankles and feet

Hi everyone, I’ve had swollen/puffy ankles and feet this afternoon and this evening, seems to get worse when I’m sitting in a chair working for long periods of time. Is this normal at this stage in pregnancy? Ironically this morning I had midwife and she asked if had any swelling and I said no as I hadn’t at that point but now I have!

Is it anything to worry about? And what can I do to reduce it? I don’t have any other symptoms.

Thanks x

I had this from around the same time. Very noticeable by evening, gone by morning. As long as your BP is ok and it’s not severe then it’s probably nothing to worry about. However, do speak to your MW if it’s bothering you or getting worse. Try to move around as much as you can and do foot exercises to keep the circulation going Xx

Thanks, yes that seems to be what mine is like too. Really random how it’s suddenly come out of nowhere! X

I would get this checked out asap. Hopefully is just some swelling but it can be a sign of something more serious. 💜

Thanks, I’ll message my midwife if it doesn’t improve today. It’s gone down a bit over night. I actually had my blood pressure checked at midwife appointment yesterday and was normal so that’s good x

I had this when I flew after 24wks - so not the same, but they told me eat LOTS of cucumber and drink lots of water and give it 3 days. (Even suggested cucumber mud/wraps on lower legs and ankles.) If it's serious you won't see a change. I started using compression socks when I flew and it made a big difference. Could be a lot of stuff, most just hormone based and harmless.

Hey there, sudden onset swelling definitely needs to be checked out. Often very normal and sometimes linked to dehydration but it was the first sign of preeclampsia for me even before my blood pressure changed. They might just want to check your BP a little more often. No harm being on the safe side.x
