Do you take extra folic acid to the multi vitamin like Pregnacare? Is 400mcg folic acid the minimum daily amount or recommended amount?
The reason im asking is Pregnacare is coated tablet, I start feeling bloated immediately after taking it, which isn’t the case for years until now I’m at early pregnancy. So I’m thinking to just take folic acid separately with other supplements im currently taking like Omega 3, Vit D

I think 400mg is the recommended daily amount but anecdotally, they can prescribe you higher quantities for certain reasons. I was on 5g from about 8 weeks. You only have to take it until about 12 weeks anyways.
In fairness though, I didn’t have sickness but I did feel sick and mega bloated for the first 12 odd weeks of pregnancy anyways, so could bloating be that? Esp as you take pregnancare with your main meal?
I can’t see what harm taking folic acid and vit d separately would do instead of pregnacare though (and in a gross way, given how luminous it makes my wee I’m pretty sure I don’t absorb much in the additional stuff anyways). midwives only ever told me to take folic acid and vit d, not a specific brand.
Have you considered changing your pregnancy supplement? Pregnacare was never on the cards for me because I can't take supplements containing iodine due to thyroid issues. I have been taking Bump & Me pregnancy gummies with no issues.
Hi I had similar issues with that brand and switched to Boots own version and had no problem although the tablets are a little bigger🙃.
Hi Midsummer_daydream. Up to twelve weeks is good. Speak to your midwife to see what is best to take. She will be monitoring your blood anyway to pick up anything you’re lacking in. Good luck. Diane
I've been taking methalfolate for my folic acid and taking it throughout my pregnancy. Not sure if that is excessive, but don't think it does any harm.
I've separately taken pregnancy safe fish oil, pregnancy probiotics and vitamin D too.
I did this with my first child and had no issues, but it is expensive....
But I take Zita West pregnancy vitamins for the rest.....I never took pregnacare...
