Hi everyone, I completely forgot to ask the nurse at the hospital if I should stop taking folic acid now I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I’ve been taking folic acid and vit D but I’ve read that you should just take vit D from 12 weeks? Any advice? Thanks 😊

should I stop taking folic acid at 12 weeks?
I’m 36 weeks and I have took it through my whole pregnancy, my midwife said. My midwife told me to keeps taking it and that it’s good for me anyway. She also told me to carry on after birth x
I took it my whole 1st pregnancy and intend to do the same this time. X
Hi I have been told to stop the folic acid at 12 weeks as its not needed when the placenta kicks in and to continue with the pregnacare max I have been taking for the rest of the pregnancy which contain some folic acid. Which I am doing. x
I’ve read that after the first 12 weeks it’s not needed to reduce the risk of spinal cord defects, but it research indicates it has other benefits for baby (can’t remember what exactly now). Since 12 weeks I’ve been taking it when I remember, but not worrying about forgetting
I've taken it before and during pregnancy. The NHS page for this is informative too.
