I am feeling so massive - a lot bigger than in my first pregnancy....
I am 29 weeks now.
I am noticing my body, legs arms aswell I have a lot more weight gained. This baby has meant a lot more meat cravings than the girl I had in my first pregnancy....not sure if cyclogest in my first trimester also had something to do with this.
I haven't heard I have gestational diabetes, but due to my weight and size I am nervous going to the midwife next week.
I am usually a size 10....
Has anyone any tips to check if my weight is 'normal' for my size?
I don’t think they will tell you off but definitely worth maybe a few checks and a mention that you feel quite different from last time. This pregnancy for me has been the complete opposite of the first, but this one is a boy and not IVF the first being IVF
Neither of mine have been IVF. First was a natural post failed IVF and this was a Letrozole/cyclogest pregnancy while I was waiting to start IVF again!
Will chat to them this week. Everything else has been fine so far...
Hopefully just naturally bigger for the 2nd pregnancy as they do say.
You won’t get GD just from putting on weight. It’s like getting type 1 diabetes - you’ll either get it or you won’t. It can be diet controlled (as in my case) but that’s generally the case with diabetes and it’s about cutting out sugar and carbs and not meat so you should be fine if you’ve been craving meat things. I understand you say your body is different to the first time but I’ve heard every pregnancy is different. If your midwife is worried she’ll tell you, and suggest ways of healthier eating but don’t worry about GD yet 🙂
I was much bigger in my second pregnancy (although both enormous babies) was tested for GD twice but nope I just make extra large humans. I was 55kg before this pregnancy and shot up to 70kg by the time I was at term which is the same weight gain I had with my first. I think a lot of it was more fluid second time around and your uterus never goes back to its original size so you’re going to be a bit bigger. First time the weight melted off me in 2 weeks breastfeeding, it’s not been the case this time but I just accept my body has done an amazing thing and second pregnancies are just harder and it will take longer but all normal.
The online pregnancy weight gain calculators also can vary quite a lot! The Omni calculator linked above is at the low end of weight gain (I'm at top end on that one), then What to Expect has one where I'm in the middle.
I'm just trying to eat healthily, I don't feel my eating habits have changed massively since being pregnant and yet I've gained nearly 9kgs (started at 60kg). I figure my body will gain what it wants to gain and it has a plan of what's best! I hope to breastfeed so will need the extra energy stores which is exactly what some of this weight gain is for.
