strep b

Evening all, has anyone had strep b diagnosed? I at 12 weeks tomorrow and had a swab for ?thrush last week which has unfortunately came back as positive for strep b . After doing some research I’ve found out how risky it is for baby. I just feel absolutely at the end of my tether after having 2 miscarriages and 2 ectopics previously then going through ivf to get here today im just starting to think this is not meant to happen. My understanding is that with antibiotics risks can be reduced but still it’s additional risks nonetheless. Not sure how much more shit I can face. Sorry for the rant. Just feeling very fed up!

xx

Hey! In my first pregnancy I had a miscarriage at 17w and in my notes it said I had strep B. So in my next pregnancy I mentioned it and they put it in my notes and was put on a drip of antibiotics when I was in labour.

Sorry you’ve got something else to add to the list of worries xx

Can I add that I didn’t have a miscarriage because of the strep B x

Hi, I was positive for this twice and as you say, they give you antibiotics but most importantly they monitor the baby as soon as they are born so they can intervene quickly should they need to. In other countries they don’t test for this, so I would say we are lucky to know beforehand! You will be closely monitored, try not to worry. It may be worth asking your birth partner to remind the midwife on arrival for the big day, just so that you are sure to get the antibiotics. You will be put on a drip, which is a pain but it’ll be fine, I promise. You will forget all about it once you hold your little treasure. Stop googling please. Babies who become poorly it’s usually when strep b is not picked up early enough. Good luck!

Just be sure it is written in your handheld notes - mention this to your midwife at next visit & try not to worry too much about it - it has been flagged up so that is good. For more reassurance take a look at tommys.org Group B strep [strep B] and pregnancy

Take care
