I have just tested positive for covid at 28 weeks and of course I am worried about the baby. Can anyone please let me know if they have had a similar experience and if they have received any good doctor’s advice on management beyond paracetamol?
Thanks in advance!

I’m 22 weeks and have covid a couple of weeks ago. My biggest issue and the issue the have said they are seeing the most is it can hit your gastrointestinal system. So do what you can to stay hydrated was their main message. They were encouraging me to sip water often. Even this was making stomach cramp so I ended up needing to go in for an IV and they gave me a round of antibiotics because they were concerned there was something else going on.
The key message from all of the doctors was if you’ve been vaxxed they aren’t seeing such bad reactions. It’s the second time I had it (first time was post egg collection) and it really wasn’t my breathing this time, despite being asthmatic. Otherwise rest. Lots and lots of rest. I hope the symptoms are light! 🤞
Thank you!! I will give the GP a call today. This is my first time, I considered myself lucky to avoid it for so long. I am also asthmatic. I had a fever last night, full body aches, sore throat and blocked nose. Same this morning except the fever so I feel more human… thanks for sharing!
Thanks HollyT7! What were the injections for? So far my midwife suggested to drink plenty of water and rest, keep the temperature down and speak to a GP of symptoms worsen… My whole body aches and I have a terrible cough but at least the fever has gone.
they gave me. blood thinners. I called the midwife non emergency number in my book and they are aged for the injections, thermometer and pulse monitor to be sent out with a booklet to. monitor my temp and some. leaflets x
Ah nice. I am at A&E now as both 111 and GP asked me to come in to be on the safe side, so let’s see what they do and how long I’m in for with this heat…
Hi, had exactly the same a couple of weeks ago at 28 weeks. I had the same symptoms for 2-3 days, complete exhaustion for around another 5 and am now fully recovered. I took 40mg of zinc and manuka honey (natural anti viral properties) in addition to paracetamol and the manuka was a godsend for the throat. I had an appointment with the midwife on Friday and mentioned I’d had Covid but she was unbothered. Baby had kept up his normal pattern of movement throughout. There’s mounting evidence that it doesn’t affect the baby. They’re well protected by the placenta. Get well soon x
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, Cloud09! I have manuka and will give it a try as my throat is so painful. It is reassuring to hear that you are now feeling better.
Better, thanks for asking! They actually gave me anticoagulants and antibiotics because they saw some results in my blood tests that showed high risk of DVT, so I’m now on them for at least 10 days until they do a chest scan to rule out any complications… Covid symptoms are improving too, I think I’ll struggle less when the temperatures go down a bit tomorrow.
