Hi,I'm 44 and the midwife has put me on 150mg aspirin daily to minimise risk of pre eclampsia, which apparently you are more at risk of above 40. I'm to take it until week 36, so I would assume even starting at week 22 should still be ok??
hey. I’m 35 and on aspirin. The midwife said that it’s to reduce the risk of pre eclampsia and improve blood flow to the placenta following FET (which can have an effect on these things apparently)
hey, I was 40 when I turned pregnant last year and 41 when I gave birth. Until the end, I was treated as low risk as my BP was fine, the scan was fine and my bloods were fine. (There was a slight anomaly later in pregnancy that I won’t bother going into) and they didn’t want me going over 40 weeks due to age, but before that they kept telling me I was low risk. I had no extra meds the whole time, except for the progesterone in early pregnancy for the ivf and I stopped that around 7 weeks. Go with your gut. The issue there is with guidelines is it’s risk based. Which when you delve into it, the margins are small and everyone is individual and it’s not based on an individual. So definitely go with what you think x
NICE guidelines say pregnant women 40+ should be on aspirin from 12 weeks to birth to prevent preeclampsia. So it is not too late to start now unless studies show starting later does not have the same protective effect (I don't know). NICE guidelines aren't always adhered to and there is sometimes evidence to show they are outdated (especially when it comes to anything infertility related - they are appallingly restrictive in this regard except for the fact they recommend everyone eligible for NHS treatment gets 3 rounds on the NHS) but I can't comment on aspirin. Your consultant will know best xx
it’s the borough that decides on how many rounds you get. In Lambeth I was only entitled to one ivf round on the nhs. And the boroughs have different cut off ages too. So it’s based on the ccgs of that borough. However, I got told on here that NICE guidelines base anyone over 40 at high risk. That irked me. It irritated me it’s based on an age not the age of that person. When I was near to 40 weeks the consultant I saw said that they don’t know when but after 40 weeks the risk of still birth goes up for over 40s but it’s so general - like they couldn’t say for me that was the case. Then it turned out the risk is one in 400 instead of one in 500. Interpret that how you will. To me it’s a small margin. In terms of pre-eclampsia at my 12 weeks scan she said that I had the best blood flow of anyone she’d seen it was so easily detected so there was as low as risk for pre eclampsia for me as for a 20 year old. Weird as I was highly expecting this risk as all my older mother friends had had this risk - but nope! All good and younger mums in my group had BP problems before 40 weeks… not me! I bet they don’t include me in this better stat for a 41 year old mum 😏
Hi I'm on aspirin till week 36 for pre eclampsia. I'm 44 years but have other risk factors which are family history of high blood pressure and if it's your first child, I think that's a risk factor.
