Was v happy with a BFP, but now I have become very anxious and worried as I realised so many things can go wrong in the first trimester. I just started spotting on and off (light pink with some white discharge) for 2 days now at the start of 5 weeks. I went to the doc and they gave me a progestorone injection and more progestorone pills (on top of utrogestan). Is there such a thing as too much progestorone?
My earliest scan is next week, and am also scaring myself about what can go wrong (e.g. empty sac, no heartbeat) and wondering whether there are any early symptoms to see so? I’m so afraid, especially after 2 previous chemicals (both never got to 5 weeks cause slow rising HCG so nvr grow inside womb).
Sorry about sounding so anxious!

Hi Thea - I had a very similar experience with two not making it past 6 weeks on my back to back fresh transfers (slow rising HCG) and never got to the first scan as was told to stop meds before. So I was pretty pessimistic about my FET and terrified of the first scan. I wanted to get it over with so I booked a private one at 5+2 - I knew there may be nothing helpful to see at that stage but I just wanted to know there was something there, generally in the right place and the right size. I was also getting my HCG and progesterone tested a lot and found that and the early scan reassuring for my 'official' first clinic scan around 7 weeks. I was on masses of progesterone (pessaries and two lubions) as I think that was our problem with the prior two and ultrogestan vaginally is meant to be better absorbed in some cases. My consultant said you can't have two much progesterone. But I was so bloated throughout this process and very soon after the BFP I resembled a basketball (to give you an idea, I didn't change much size-wise between 9 weeks and 5 months!). I also spotted as soon as I tapered off the progesterone and it stopped when I went back on - I assume I would have spotted the whole time if I hadn't been on them. My doctors said brown/light pink is ok and it's very common early on. Mine went red at times and there was more and wasn't happy about it going on for so long so I got it checked - all fine and apparently something weird with my cervix but I'm glad I got it checked. If your doctor's given you extra progesterone that's great and maybe you want to get progesterone and HCG tested a bit more to see it's all ok, but if you're still spotting you can also get early scans and go to the EPU and try and insist on being seen. I get how anxious you must be after losses (I only really relaxed even a little bit after about 20 weeks) and do what you can for reassurance, but everything you've described can all be ok x
Thank you for sharing your experience! Ya, I’m so bloated now that it’s weird and now I understand that could be because of the progestorone, but if it helps, I’m happy to look big anytime!
Thanks for the idea about more tests, that would also go a ways to give me peace of mind and also to go to EPU. I really appreciate the reply 😊
Hi Thea. Could be that your ovaries are still a bit active. Drinkplenty of water and don’t get constipated. Spotting could be sign of infection or irritation of cervix from pessaries use. You cold switch to using back passage for a few days. Your scan isn’t far away. Speak to your GP. Diane
