About 11 months ago I was diagnosed with a fatty liver and my FibroScan results were:
Fibrosis result: Median = 11.2 kPa (F3)
Steatosis result: CAP score = 313 dB/m (S3)
I was 5’7 and weighed 260 lbs.
Since then, I have adhered as closely as possible to a liver friendly diet, exercised almost every day for 30 minutes and lost 74 lbs.
Today I had my follow up FibroScan and the results were as follows:
Fibrosis result: Median = 4.4 kPa (No evidence of fibrosis)
Steatosis result: CAP score = 144 dB/m (Normal/ No steatosis)
I understand that FibroScan tests can overestimate results under certain conditions, but I am absolutely thrilled with these results. Could it have overestimated my initial results by that much?

Based on your height and weight you would have been considered obese which the fibroscan can not get accurate results. I have have 2 fibroscans and 2 liver biopsies and I'm not overweight even when I was diagnosed. The first fibroscan had me So and F2 but the biopsy had me at F3. The second fibroscan 6 months later was because I was trying to get into a clinical trial had me at S0 and F3 but the biopsy had me at F2. The biopsy saw no ballooning and fibrosis regression.. Both times the biopsy differed from the biopsy. Gold stand is the biopsy. Im sure your condition improved due to weight loss and diet.
Thank you. I have upcoming appointments with my PCP and gastroenterologist. I don't think that a biopsy is an option for me, nor do I really want one. I'll see what they say and go from there. I'll continue with my current diet and exercise routine.
Good luck with your health. Fibroscans to me are not very accurate I give them a plus 1 or minus 1 stage on their result. I'm 5'5" and weigh 129 pounds.
The results from two biopsies can exhibit up to a 30% variance due to the sampling of tissue from various regions of the liver with varying degrees of fibrosis, or even due to the human factor, including the pathologist themselves.
It's not easy, but I have gotten used to it. I started gradually eliminating the really bad stuff and making adjustments as I went along. Still making adjustments. I also try to exercise daily for 30 minutes on my treadmill. Good luck
Hi I have e just been having fibrescan and my fat has gone up from 249 to 304 quite worrying in 2 years . I'm cutting out all chocolate and puddings and hoping to make a difference . My stiffness was 4.8 which seems crazy with high fat
