Is Claritin anti-allergy safe for PBC and cirrhosis?

I'm in Indonesia and supposed to fly back home in two days. Today I woke up with a terrible cold and fever. I took Vitamin C and echinacea, and zinc lozenges for my throat.

I stopped at a pharmacy and the only thing they had for cold symptoms was Claritin anti allergy tablets. Does anybody know if they're safe for someone with PBC and compensated cirrhosis? I've been very stable for many years.

I'm afraid they won't let me get on the plane in fly home in two days...it'll be a very long trip, almost a full day, and my nose is running like a faucet now with quite a fever.

I don't want to do myself any harm but I also don't want to get bumped from my plane ride!

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Not a medical opinion, but I had a somewhat similar experience and my doc said I could take Claritin.

Thank you, that's good to know and gives me a little reassurance. I've slept for over 24 hours straight and haven't eaten in a day and a half. I'getting really concerned that they won't let me on the plane.

Although most of these meds go through our liver and I won't let a doctor give me anything that is long term that goes through my liver, I have found over my 23 years of dealing with Stage 4 MASH that taking cold meds is a necessity and as long as you don't take it long term your ok. I try not to take it more than 5 days. My cold might last a little longer than most I just don't want to take any meds long term. Good Luck.

Thanks for that, it's reassuring. I ditched the Claritin because it didn't do a thing. My friend that I'm travelling with has some Advil Cold and Sinus...I took one tab and very quickly started to feel better after sweating like crazy! I just need something to get me through a couple of airports, wearing a mask. I'll probably only need one more pill to get me through.

I always run ingredients in every med I take whether it’s prescribed or over the counter through the NIH Liver Tox database - link above.
