Betaine HCL helps fatty liver?

I was diagnosed with NAFLD in 2016 and began researching the issue. I've had the markers of metabolic syndrome since young adulthood (55 now), which for me at least clearly has a genetic component. Anyway had my gallbladder out in my 40s, have done pretty well, but have had boughts of stomach pain, mild diarrhea, reflux, partially digested food in stools in last few years. Recently discovered betaine HCL with pepsin supplement to help with increasing stomach acid which immediately helped immensely with the gastro symptoms and increased my energy because I was now properly digesting my food. I read that betaine also may help clear fatty liver, excess triglycerides, and other metabolic syndrome symptoms. Anyone else hear that? My next lab tests may show something aI hope.

Haven't seen this question before so not a typical NAFLD/NASH issue. Betaine works by preventing the build-up of an amino acid called homocysteine. This amino acid can harm blood vessels and contribute to heart disease, stroke, or circulation problems. Betaine is used to reduce homocysteine levels in people with a genetic condition called homocystinuria, in which the amino acid builds up in the body. You might ask your doc if you may have a genetic driver since this seems to help you but we couldn't suggest it for a typical patient.
