getting a test

why is getting a test done so difficult? I even said I would do a liver biopsy instead of MRE. GI wants more blood tests. I just want to know what my fibrosis level is! I have pain in the upper right quadrant, pain in the back, etc.

Its really frustrating, I know. It's a hurry up and wait. Have you asked your GI for urgency? Also, you may want to get a referral to a hepatologist. They appear to be more urgent on liver matters...at least from my experience.

A fibroscan can tell you what level of fibrosis you have, and the blood tests results can help diagnose which liver disease you have, or what caused the disease. I have to get a biopsy as I am F4/S3, but I had several years of blood tests showing NAFLD.

It is usually driven by the insurance coverage. Sometimes insurance won't pay but in other cases the docs make more money if they don't order expensive tests and if your doc doesn't think it will change the care plan in any way they don't order it. If you can get into a clinical trial you will probably get all the tests you want.

that’s kind of junk that a doc will get paid more to not do expensive tests…healthcare, ugh!!

Docs are under a lot of pressure not to do tests that are not needed. A lot depends on the kid of insurance you have and it all gets very complicated but it is usually driven by who pays.
