I took my liver for a spin on Velacur, a new liver screening test you should know about

Patients who have been on this journey with me over the years know my story, but for the new folks, I've been a test dummy and I've been able to track my progress with my darned cirrhotic liver over the years. I've confirmed my progress with both Fibroscan and MRE and I have progressed from a Fibroscan of 21.5 at diagnosis to 9.6 in 2020. Technology is advancing and I recently had an opportunity to get a Velacur test, a new kid on the block offering liver tests.

Here is a link to a blog post I wrote about the test

Hi Wayne, sounds like great technology. Where exactly is this available? Is it out for the entire general public yet? Just like Multiscan, I researched and looked and unfortunately it is not available for me in a huge city like Chicago. I wish all of these technologies could be utilized by everyone everywhere. Thanks for sharing 🩻👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Velacur is pretty new and we have to get the docs to start using them. This is being made for the primary care offices so you won't have to see a specialist to get it but how long the adoption takes is hard to predict. We expect to publish a directory in

Interesting. Indeed pretty new tool. I found below info.

"Noninvasive assessment of fibrosis among patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD]" -> Published online 2022 Jan 5.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

"5.4. Velacur™ Velacur™ is another novel noninvasive imaging modality developed in the fibrosis assessment among patients with NAFLD. It utilizes multiple, steady-state ultrasound waves in order to generate a three-dimensional liver tissue sample, including noninvasive calculations for hepatic fibrosis and steatosis [52]. Velacur™ still needs to be validated across larger, clinical trials, however appears to be an attractive noninvasive fibrosis assessment in the future management for patients with NAFLD."

Can it be used in patients with pacemakers?

It has the same rules as an ultrasound regarding pacemakers I believe, but I haven't looked at that question myself

Thanks. I read their website but couldn't find that info.
