Two weeks ago, I woke up with horrendous abdominal pain. After a trip to A&E and around the houses a bit, I was told there are some fat deposits in my liver and my liver blood tests were abnormal.
As I'd ended up in a gallbladder dept, they confirmed it wasn't my gallbladder and they would refer me to the GP for next steps.
More blood tests at the GPs - 6 in total I think. I rang them to chase results and was told I was given advice at the hospital and I confirmed advice was to see GP.
Managed to get a phone app for Sat morning, they confirmed liver blood tests were abnormal and as per hospital advise, I need to lose weight. I wasn't told this at the hospital, but must be in the notes that were passed to the GP. They said they'll check my blood again in 3 months. I don't know what any of my other results are.
I went out for lunch yesterday and had a bad reaction to the food and the excruitiating pain came back, it's only just starting to wear off now.
I've requested the blood test transcripts from the GP, so I can figure out what tests were actaully done and what the results mean.
What should my next steps be? I don't drink often, maybe once or twice a year and I've proactively made some changes to my diet - more lean meat, more fruit/salad/veg etc. Changed pasta/bread to wholegrain versions. Cut out on the chocolat/biscuits/cake, but I'm just feeling a little lost now - do I need to go back to the GP and question them more?

If you have your blood tests, AST,ALT, platelet count, go to this link and calculate your FIB-4 result. It gives a probability of whether you have liver issues that would prompt for more testing or referral to a specialist. Not sure how you take next steps in the UK but it can be a useful data point.
Thank you. I'll look as soon as I get my hands on the transcripts... They've said up to 4 weeks to send them, so I'll pester the receptionist every couple of days.
My son found a hepatologist and started getting better with the specialists advice. Prayers you find someone that can help you find the right path. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You’re not alone. GP’s don’t always know what to do next. I went to my Gastroenterologist and they used a fibroscan and after my results, they had a hepatologist perform a liver biopsy through an endoscopy. After everything, I was told to exercise and lose weight.
For you, did they check your appendix? Just asking, only time my belly hurt was appendix and endometriosis. Good luck to you!
Yes, they've ruled out appendix, kidneys and gallbladder. Ultrasound showed liver inflammation and some fatty spots, but as it was done under the gallbladder section of the hospital, they passed it over to my GP and everything seems to have stalled a bit.
lose weight and change your diet. Low carb, low fat, nothing white, no sugar, no red meat. No dairy, no bread; only lean meat and fish for meats. Lots of veggies (especially cruciferous ones), berries, fruits, nuts and seeds; whole food, mostly plant based. That’s how I got rid of my F4 fibrosis.
I have f3/4 fibrosis and the fatty liver is improving but scarring got worse. How did you know yours improved? and did it improve right along with fatty liver? I am discouraged mine has not. Thanks
I assume it improved as I had a fibroscan, ultrasound and blood work and I was told my liver was now perfect , my blood work was perfect and my scans were perfect and I didn’t have to come back for a year .
